red mail My birthplace from Canada... - (Cadnam - Hampshire)
I was born March 1941 in the house at the end of Kennington Lane, Cadnam. At the time Jack and Dora Oxley were living there and my mother Nan Holloway my brother Eddie, sister Janet and grandmother Ellen GILES were invited to stay with the Oxley's as my mother was pregnant with me and needed a safer place to stay away from Southampton. Dora and Jack had a daughter Janice (just a little younger than myself). We spent many hours playing under the pear and apple trees in the yard with our dolls. We picked many a daffodil from the garden and played hide-and- seek behind the long and beautiful rhododendron bush. One day the boar from the farm behind the house got into our yard and chased Janice and myself. So smart us.... we ran to the outhouse. As you can guess this was not a smart move. The building was only about 3ft wide by 4ft with a bucket in a wooden seat. The BOAR was VERY BIG and he was rubbing himself up and down the outhouse and the old outhouse was moving from side to side AND OH yes you can guess what was happening with the bucket.....I will leave that to your imagination...We also learnt that the boar had a thick skin as he trod down all the sting-a-nettles and never got stung like we did. Still remember lighting the little gas lights-filling the tin bath for bath night-watching the wild horses run through the village-the smell of fresh hay-the fragrance of the daffodils-walks through the fields on our way to Copythorn Church School (Behind St. Marys Church)-Visiting my grandma's grave in the Church yard (Ellen Freeman died 21st Feb 1943). Wonderful memories of a beautiful family that took us in during the war.My Godmother Auntie Dora and Uncle Jack, grandma Roper and Janice. Our neighbours were Mr & Mrs Arney -Pam & Jean. Memories of Cadnam still fresh in my mind... Pam Alberta,Canada. (editor, Thankyou for such an interesting entry, I am sure many people enjoy reading it)
