Hi, Does anyone have any information on William Westcott, born 18th November 1763, Martock, Somerset, died 22nd December 1848, Ringwood. He married Martha (patty) Jennings at Christchurch Priory 17th April 1788. I believe that, like his son Charles Stephen Westcott (born 25th February 1800) also of Ringwood, that he was a surgeon, but have not been able to find anything else about him. I would particularly like to identify his parents, but have not found a christening record at Martock, so he may have been christened elsewhere. many thanks for any help anyone can offer. best wishes Richard Jones

I'm interested in Elizabeth Hough possibly the daughter of James Hough of Ringwood Hampshire. If I have the correct one, she was born in 1836 and married a William Davies Talbot who went to fight in India. It seems that after he was killed, Elizabeth married my great great grandfather Charles Henry Wood in 1855 when she was still only 19 years of age. They had four, possibly five children, William Henry Wood 1860, Margaret 1864, Elizabeth 1868 and Daniel Augustus Wood 1870. Thanks for any information.

Looking for information about my 4th Great Grandfather David Langer who married Ann Gatrill and whose son was William Langer, maltster, at Kittier and Fryer Brewery. There are entries of two Langers in Parish records too, a Robert Langer, and his son James bapt 26 March 1671, but am unable to connect them. Iknow that the family in the next generation moved to Portsmouth, but any information on these earlier Langers, Brints, Gatrills would be most welcome .

In 1851 my great great grandmother Jannet Herbert (nee Joyce) was living at Moortown House Ringwood with her children James, Herbert, Charles, Frederick and Horace along with her sister in law Julia Small. Any information on the ownership of this house and on her husband Henry Herbert (lodging in Westminster at the time) or the Herbert family would be gratefully received. They were living in West Street, Wimborne from 1861 onwards until their death in 1891.

My great great grandfather was Walter Holmes ,born Ringwood c1848.His mother was Sarah (aka Kezia) born c1811.I believe that she was already a widow by the time Walter was born,so would like to know :- 1) Who his father was 2) What Kezias maiden name was and who she married. I found Sarah on the 1861 census,children Henry 1834,Mary 1839, Alfred 1845, Walter 1848, Edward 1850, Arthur 1855.I think on the 1841 census she is Kezia Holmes,although the childrens birthdates don't tie up. Looking for information on or descendants of Eleanor Jane PHILLIPS who married Reginald Charles PLUMLEY at Guildford, Surrey, on 31 October 1922. They had three children: Jean (1923), Donald Charles (1924) and Philip (1926). Jean married Bevil William MINTY at Christchurch in Dorset in the Sep 1947 quarter and had two children: Ian (1947) and Keith 1951). I believe both of the latter also married and produced children. I am not aware of Donald Charles or Philip having married, but neither is listed as a casualty of WWII so presumably survived and could have married. Does anyone recognise any of these people please?

Looking for descendants of Reginald Charles PLUMLEY and Eleanor Jane PHILLIPS who married at Guildford on 31 October 1922. On the marriage certificate, Reginald is described as a bachelor of 26, resident at Crowe Hill in Ringwood and a chauffeur. His father was named as William PLUMLEY, a labourer. Eleanor was 26, the daughter of Charles John PHILLIPS, an engine driver for L&SW Railway and resident at 83 Agraria Road in Guildford. Charles, then a "steam-getter" for the same railway company, had been posted to Ringwood at the time of the 1891 census and married Georgina CLACY at Ringwood on 3 April 1893. Georgina's father, William Robert CLACY, was also an "engine man" for SWR. Does anyone know of any descendants of Reginald and Eleanor?

John Northeast born Winterslow, Wilts married Elizabeth Lamborn in Winterslow and was buried there aged 48 in 1774. On the burial register he was described as 'of Ringwood'. They had a daughter, Elizabeth who I believe married Philip Perrot in 1767 in Ringwood. I would like to find any other children who may have been born to this couple.

Looking for any information on the Cronk family. They had a farm somewhere close to the village. I think it was in the 40s and 50s.
Looking for the place where the tombstone for my g-g-g-grandmother was quarried and carved. We have very little information about her, and we are hoping to find out where she came from by tracing the tombstone. We think she may have come from the Ringwood/Fordingbridge area. Her name was MARY SANDY, dob 1751, maiden name unknown. Her husband, MOSES SANDY, sent 'back home' to England to get the stone. I have pictures of the stone and close-ups of the carving. Does anyone know of a company or men who made tombstones for Newfoundland in the 1700's?

Charles Sharp, a widower, remarried in Ringwood on 1 February 1832 his second wife was Anne Dyer of Ringwood, but who was his first wife and where and when did they marry ? There were two little girls of the first marriage who seem to have been very young when their mother died. Does anyone have access to Ringwood Parish Registers ? Charles and Anne ( Dyer ) had at least one child - Mary Anne born in 1833 in Ringwood.

Looking for George Sandy, who was born in Ford-ingbridge in December 12,1755. His parents were William Sandy and Christian (Collis); his sister, Mary b. 1747; his brother Moses b. 1758, Thomas b. 1759; and Stephen b. unknown. They may have lived in Gorley, or Ringwood, also.
Dyer of Ringwood
The Dyer family were doctors in Ringwood - in some way connected to the Tripp/ Nankivell families of Somerset and Gloucester ( Bristol ). Dates in Ringwood roughly mid ninetenth to mid twentieth century. There were two brothers one a surgeon the other a G.P. Does this ring a bell with anyone ? If so PLEASE let me know,I am descended from the Somerset Trippsvery happy to share what I know.

On birth records copied from the originals for people born in Ringwood, the notation was made that the father was from Burly (in one case), in another, the father was said to be from Parly Parish. In addition to Ringwood, family originated from Fordingbridge earliest entry 1628 William LECESTER. Family moved to BURLEY but until mid 19th century all births,etc registered at Ringwood. Name also spelt LEICESTER. Strong connections to BROWNING, MARCHANT, DUNNINGS, SIMS, STANSBRIDGE.
Browning or Brownen
Israel Brownen m. Eleanor BLAKE at Ellingham 2 Oct 1698, this is the earliest parish register entry for the family. My Browning/Brownen tree then runs to 1921 when Sarah Ann Browning my G.Grandmother died. Many marriages and births for Browning/Brownen between those dates cannot be found. Pleased to hear from anyone who can help fill in the gaps. Earlier I know Israel's Father, also Israel, died 1710 but cannot find his birth. As well as Ringwood strong connections with Burley as this was their main village, Ringwood being the only Church at that time so little connection in fact with Ringwood apart from use of the Church.

His parents were Joseph Corbin who married Elizabeth Bursey on 19.11.1780. Besides William, they had Anne b 25.5.1783, Isaac b. 10.10.1784 and twins John and James b. 6.5.1787.

Joseph Veal, a malster, married to Elizabeth ? (possibly Bessant). They had at least three children, including Joseph born 19 March 1791 , Jno Bessant born 14 July 1792 and Anne born 25 April 1794. After his death widow Elizabeth married William Clark, another malster in Ringwood. Anne was to marry James Metcalfe from London (his second wife) possibly about 1823-4. She died in 1866 at Ringwood. Was Joseph the Joseph born 13 July 1769 and christened 8 August 1769 at the Great/Upper Meeting House Ringwood, parents being William Veal and Ann Austin married 17 January 1758 at Ringwood Parish Church? And was Elizabeth the Betty Bessant christened 15 June 1762 at Ringwood, the daughter of James Bessant?

Looking for information on, or descendants of, Charles John PHILLIPS, born at Shorncliffe, Kent c1869, the son of James PHILLIPS of the 76th Regiment of Foot (the 'Hindoostan') and Jane nee BARNES. Charles is shown in the 1891 census for Ringwood as being unmarried, aged 22, and a 'Steam Getter' on the L&SW Railway. He was living as a Boarder with the Lawrence family at Christchurch St, Ringwood, Hants. Charles married Georgina CLACY on 3rd April 1893 quarter and that at least two children were born in the Ringwood area - Eleanor Jane in the March 1894 quarter and Clarissa May in the September 1896 quarter. A further child, Georgina Lucy, was probably born at Southampton in the Dec 1899 quarter. In the 1901 census the family are recorded at the parish of St Nicholas somewhere in Surrey and Charles's occupation is given as Railway Engine Driver. At the date of Charles's marriage, his father was the landlord of the Swan Inn at Totton near Southampton. In the marriage certificate of Charles and Georgina, her father is named as William Robert CLACY, an Engineman for the SWR. Does anyone recognise any of the above please?
