I would like any info on William & Emma Bailey (1786-1872)maiden name probably Dyke. William was a shoemaker who died in 1835. Emma was from Uphaven or Upavon in Wilkshire. They had a son Jeremiah born abt 1827. Their son William from William's 1st marriage married Caroline Tomlin on Jan 22,1857 & Jeremiah married Caroline Sarah Ann Barnes on Oct 11,1855.

My grandmother Nellie Margaret Mort was born in New Alresford in 1892 and her father Arnold was an upholsterer in the area around this time.He originally came from Brighton in Sussex.Nellie had a younger brother John who lived in the area possibly up until his death.However, there are still Morts living in the area so would love to get more information on our family history.

Henry Giles Smith (baptised at Owslebury, Hants 8.2.1824) married Julia Holland (baptised at Meonstoke, Hants 14.12.1828) at the Independent Church at New Alresford on 30.4.1846. He was a blacksmith who called himself an engineer because he manufactured bicycles. The lovely Independent Church still stands but is now a private house.

Not sure if this info will help anyone. But I knew a Leslie Harfield, lived close to Romsey. I think his Father was Frederick Cyril Harfield. Leslie senior then had a son, also called Leslie, another son called Malcom. The majority of the family now live in Southampton and the surrounding areas, including North Baddesley.

They immigrated to Tasmania, Australia, in 1853, leaving their 3 eldest daughters: Elizabeth GALE who married Matthew H. MOSS.Jane GALE who married William N. HULBERT. Ellen GALE who married David VINCENT. My Great Grandmother was their 4th daughter, Emily GALE was one of their 4 children who immigrated with them The 3 elder children were born in Eldon, Kings Somborne.
