I am looking for information about staff at Elvethan Hall c1895 on ward. My grandfather was raised there as his father was one of the gardeners. Prior to his birth the family had a double barrelled name and both families resided in Hartley Wintney / Elvetham. Amongst my late Aunts photographs I have discovered a large photograph of a well dressed gentleman in the grounds of the Dutch House at Hartley Wintney, I think the photograph dates from about 1905. I do not know who the gentleman is and wondering if anyone can tell me the history of this large listed property in the village of Hartley Wintney.

My grandfather George Miles was born in 1891 in Hartley Wintney to Charles & Mary (nee Eales). Charles & Mary married in 1886 in Hartley Wintney. They had 12 children all born in Hartley Wintney. I have no other information on Charles so cant be sure where he was born as only have census entries listing Sherbourne St John & Monk Sherborne c1860. His father was George. Is anyone else researching this family to share info?

Herbert H? born @1902 could be Winchfield,had a sister Ivy born 1909, sister "Bertha" who married "Eddie Scheffler had a son Roderick who was a pilot in the war & was shot down, also a brother Alexander killed in India? He joined the RAF married & divorced my Grandmother Mildred nee Reed in Ipswich, then lost touch & my mother traced him through the RAF in 1950 only to be told he had died @ 1947-48. My father used to live on Star Hill before the first world war and used to walk to the Ely Pub; he said it was named after a horse owned by Lord Rosebery which won the Derby. Is this true? Is it still there?

I would like any information on 1900 workhouse at winchfield(Hartley Wintney). I am trying to track my Grandmothers father. My Grandmother was born in the workhouse in 1900. I believe the workhouse may of sent for him and my Grandmother went to live with him. Does any one know how I can find this on the records . Thank you
My great-aunt Mary Elizabeth Keen (born 1870 Ox/Glos.) married Edwin Frank Beecher (born Lambeth) at Hartley Wintney in 1904. They emigrated to Argentina. One of their children, Amy, visited relatives in England in 1959.

Thomas married Margaret Thorn from Newbury, Berks. They moved to Croydon, Surrey and raised eight children there. Their names were, Edith, Kate, Alice, Albert, Frank, Walter, William and Ernest Bertram White. Edith married Frank Sumner. Alice married Henry Charles Dennis.
