red mail Allen and Dixon family I.O.W
We are researching Allens and Dixons and have come across reference to Charles Allen a High Bailiff at Newport in 1851/61/71/81. In 1841 he was Governor of Newport Jail and a reference to a William Allen in 1841 he was a "Height Inspector" and in 1861 he was a Governors clerk at what is described as "unknown prison" in the Wootton registration district. If anyone can throw light on any of this and in particular what is a Height Inspector we would be much obliged
Parkhurst Prison
My gt-gt grandfather, Henry Strickland, was steward of the prison in the 1850s, 1860s and 1870s. Does anybody have any information concerning his time there, or any pictures of him and his family, or of the prison itself?

I am seeking information about my great x4 grandparents William Scott and Hannah Cooper (b c1788 Chale). They married at Shalfleet on 25.11.1807. Hannah remarried in 1852 to Jeremiah Rolf and d age 94 on 6.3.1882. I assume William died pre 1852, can anyone provide information to assist please?

My great great grandparents were Andrew Cooke and Caroline Hannah (Kelson) from Carisbrooke Isle of Wight. They married in 1860 and Caroline died in 1872. I have some information about both families but would like to find out more if anyone is looking in the same area.

My great-grandfather was born around 1859. He once was landlord of the Trinity Arms public house. His father was James Taylor. James William Taylor married Elizabeth Bramble and they moved to Shirley, Southampton around 1900.
