red mail NIND, ATTWOOD,BETTERIDGE - update on progress
Many thanks to all who replied to my previous request for help tracking these families. The response was incredible and I got as far as William ATTWOOD marrying Elizabeth GRIFFIN in Bishops Cleeve in 1797. A further tree found on takes things much farther back and leads to the SINCLAIRS of Scotland, ultimately, but I don't feel I can take that seriously unless I verify each stage of it, which will probably be tricky, though really interesting. Most wonderfully though, I was able to identify, via other records, at least one major family event which would have caused massive stigma and fragmented the family thereafter (hence why I had to do the research because it wasn't comfortably discussed.) The NIND line led back to a William NIND married to a Patience POTTER, then William's parents; John NIND (b1783) and a Sarah _______ (b1786). There it went cold, as far as I can tell, but I hope to find more.. The BETTERIDGEs I have yet to research, so once again, thank you for all your helpful messages. Obviously if anyone has extra information taking any of the lines further, it would be appreciated, but I am already thrilled to have achieved this much. Anything more is a fascinating extra.
red mail NIND ATTWOOD BETTERIDGE - Any info appreciated.
I am tracing the family tree of an Albert ATTWOOD of the Guiting / Winchcombe area. I hope to identify his parents and go backback further. On his birth certificate, his mother's maiden name NIND is the only name listed. That seems unusual. Born in Postlip or Charlton Kings in 1871, Albert went on to be a 'machine minder' at a local paper mill according to a 1901 census which also listed him as married to a Fanny BETTERIDGE, in 1899 and together they had quite a few sons at least. If you know anything which can add clarity, I would be so grateful.
John Hopkins born 1761? Died in Winchcombe workhouse 21st March 1842. He died of a broken femur. His wife Jane died in 1846 probably in the same place. Their daughter Elizabeth Hopkins unmarried? also died in the workhouse leaving two small sons in there. The younger born 1843 in Laverton, migrated to Manchester and became my GG grandfather. I am searching for any information on Jane and John's marriage to enable me to work further back. Thank you Pat
