Looking for information on Richard and Hannah Workman nee Banks, married April 10th 1792 in Painswick.
Thomas & Ellen Eliza Dee
Thomas Dee and his 2nd wife Ellen Eliza were living at Butt Green in Painswick at the time of the 1911 census. Thomas was a jobbing gardner. Both were buried at Painswick Hill cemetery: Ellen Eliza in 1914 age 62, Thomas in 1924 age 81. Is there anyone out there who could take photos of their entries in the burial register for the cemetery? I believe that they're held by the parish council. Also - is there anyone who knows what happened to their son, Owen? He would have been 18 in 1911.

I am looking for relatives of my g g g g grandfather Joseph Burdock born in Miserden 1715 - I see that there were only 250 inhabitants at that time so am thinking that he must be related to the John Burdock of 1708 that a few other posts mention. I have details of the Burdocks from my gg grandmother onwards - she was a Mary Ann Burdock born in Pontypool she had several brothers including a Charles, Richard William & Joseph who all emigrated to America later in life and she had a sister Margaret - she was the daughter of a Joseph Burdock and Mary Lee. She married someone else and had 3 children.When Charles married ( 2nd time) he gave his father as Thomas Estcourt. Charles married Ann Phillips, had 9 children - the youngest, George James married Elizabeth Dinely Lies, in 1853/4 emigrated to New Zealand in 1856, my Great grandfather.Anyone know the family - would love to know who the father was - married possibly, and more about his mother. I am looking for any information about Thomas LUKER who was a son of John Luker, born in 1793 in Barnsley, Glos, died March 1853, probably in Painswick. Thomas was likey born in the 1810/20s, emigrated to Australia with his brother George in 1839 and then to Valparaiso, Chile. He had 3 children with his first wife, John T, Nimrod and George and I would like to know what happened to them.

Richard Lane m. Sarah Wood at Hempstead in 1812. Thomas William Wood Lane was the first of their twelve children baptised at Painswick. Thomas and his mother Sarah were tried in 1832 for burglary - Sarah was acquitted, Thomas transported. He married Frances Matilda Mudie in Sydney 1843, and they had 16 children. They were my gt-gt-grandparents. The names of Wood and Lane were carried through to my father, Edmund Wood Lane Swadling b.1922.

Children recorded are James,Alfred,George,Frederick and Charles. These are actually the children of Maria's first marriage to William Pegler. They took the name Walkley during their childhood, but some reverted to Pegler when they became adults.

The Beavins family were living in Painswick until the late 1800's. Joseph was mentioned in Pigot's Directory as a Tailor. There is a memorial to him and his mother (Sarah Thomas)in the United reform Church. The surname appears to be welsh but could be french (Bois Vin)and is often mis-spelt as Bevins or Bevin (eg. Census) I am interested in anything previous to 1839.

John & Hannah Jonsson's son Swen emigrated to UK and married a Welsh girl, Jessie Ada Beavan (b. 1859); they had 9 children, the eldest of whom, Anjanetta, was my maternal grandmother. She met and married James Dixon who came from Painswick and travelled to Newport Mon. to seek work and they settled down in Newport, where my mother Daisy Annie Dixon was born. One of Anjanetta's sister's or sisters-in-law, was housekeeper in what my mother used to describe as the'big house' in Painswick.

Lawrence (or Laurence) Jacob born abt 1712 and John Jacob born abt 1714 both had children christened and married at St. Mary's church in Painswick. Among the surnames associated with these two Jacob lines are: Jones, Webb, Wager, Hardy, Wood, Cooke, and Tizard. Family members were also born in the Gloucestershire cities of Stroud, Cheltenham, and Winchcombe. In Lancashire the Jacob family lived in Liverpool and West Derby. Seeking information about my G.Grandmother Mary Anne Winn Laundress, New Street, Painswick, born Sheepscombe 1838. We have a photograph of her in the doorway of her shop taken about 1915. 1901 UKCensus puts her shop about the area of the Post Office, Bootmaker,Baptist Chapel.
