I am seeking information about my ancestors who originated from Minchinhampton. My great great great grandfather Richard Day (born 28th December 1818 in Minchinhampton) immigrated with his wife Mary Anne nee Newman to South Australia in 1838 on the Royal Admiral. I believe his father was Luke Day born 26.12.1791 and died 3.4.1854 and his grandfather was George Day born 15.7.1770 and died 2.8.1846. Any information pertaining to this family lineage would be appreciated.

my gt gt grandfather john king was born in minchinhampton in 1837, he was an apprentice baker and went on to live in wales, i cannot trace his family in minchinhampton ,he married ann ? also from gloustershire, buts thats all iv,e found so far. i would appreciate any lead please, they went to live in carmarthen and then to cardiff.

George married a Caroline Cook in 1875. Sadly Caroline died in 1890 leaving a son George William (1881). Also George E had a sister called Mary Ann who married an Isaac Evans. They all lived at Minchinhampton.

According to the census, he was born in Minchinhampton c1839, his father was Thomas Ashmead who in the census is listed as being born in Painswick or. another year, Monmouth, c1803? Henry became a soldier with the Royal Artillery and married Mary Ann Colls in Woolwich, Kent on 13 Jan 1864. They then went to Ireland where my G grandfather was born. I have been unable to find any listing in birth records so have no idea who his mother was. I'm stuck at Thomas. Any help would be greatly appreciated. from Canberra, Australia

My gg-grandfather was Elijah Close (b. circa 1825), son of Edward Close and Elizabeth. Elijah was born in Minchinhampton, and the family subsequently moved to Bradford on Avon between 1841 and 1851. Elijah married Fanny Tribe in Trowbridge in 1847, and then emigrated to Australia. Any contact with people with knowledge of Closes in Minchinhampton would be welcome.
Based around Minchinhampton, mainly Amberley and earlier Littleworth several family researchers have families linked to Richard Latham 1665-1710. I am keen to extend the tree and check the details and would be interested in hearing from anyone with links to the family.

When he was 17 years old my great great grandfather, JOHN HODGES, along with his older brother/half brother Charles Hodges, emigrated to Australia in 1839 from Minchinhampton-Horsley area. Eventually other Hodges family members joined them in NSW, leaving their father Richard Hodges and perhaps one sibling back in Gloucestershire. The following events I can tie directly with Minchinhampton: marriage of ROBERT HODGES and Sarah Daniels, April 1777; Death of ROBERT HODGES March 1817; their son RICHARD HODGES was christened in Feb 1781: married (1) Mary Smith 1804 and (2)Esther JONES July 1821. Richard and Esther Jones were parents of Charles, John, William, Louisa and ? By 1851 Richard Hodges was a widower living in Horsley. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

George LATHAM and Elizabeth DAVIS had three children born and baptised in Minchinhampton. Eleanor (1831), George Henry (1833) and Thomas (1841). They also had two other children, both born in London. Hannah Maria (born 1835) and William James Small (born 1837/38). Hannah, William and Thomas were all baptised together in 1841 on the same day in Minchinhampton. The 1841 census lists the family at Minchinhampton, but without father George. Elizabeth DAVIS was born in Bisley, Gloucestershire in 1810(info from 1851 census). By 1851 she was back in London with all the children except Eleanor with her. Elizabeth said she was a widow. Cannot identify George or find a marriage record. Any information most welcome.

my gt gt grandparents moved to Minchinhampton from Winkliegh, Devon there names were Richard (1840-1882) and Penelope Sampson (nee Dunn). Richard joined the Gloucestershire Police Force (14/10/1864) there children were born in the Police House in West End, Minchinhampton. They had 5 children William (1864), Clara Mabel (1868-1928) she moved to Putney in London and married Henry Roberts, Dora (1869-1869), Frank (1872-1949) married Annie Mary Dickman (1867-1947) daughter of Arthur and Maria Leech in 27/12/1892 at Stroud Reg Off, they had as far as i know 6 children Lilian she married a Henry Barnfield and lived at Minch, Mabel (1894), Percy (1897), Phyllis (1900), Clara and Ernest (1905). My gt grandmother Dora (1876-1968) she married Alfred William Sharpe (1876-1951) on 15/5/1900 at Stroud Reg Off, eventually they moved to Dudley, Worc around 1917. In the 1881 census Richard and family had moved across the River Severn to Littledean, where he was a Police Constable. Richard died 1/4/1882 at Box, Penelope moved to Stroud and i think she married someone named Turner
