red mail ABBOTTS from HORSLEY
My ABBOTT ancestors Daniel and Maria from Horsley applied for free passages to South Australia in January 1838 for themselves and 3 sons Daniel, Alfred and Henry. They left in February 1838 from Portsmouth on the vessel 'Eden'. I want to find out if the 3 sons were baptised in the parish church of St Martin; they were aged 7 years, 4 years and 18 months in January 1838. Maria's maiden name on some records we have is PARKER; on others it is GRANDEL. We believe both Daniel senior and Maria may have been illegitimate; Daniel may have come from Minchinhampton, first having his mother's surname of HEAVEN; Maria came from Stroud. They were married at Minchinhampton in 1832. They must have come to Horsley to live before they applied to emigrate. Neil, Belair South Australia
