My 2xgreatgrandfather James Bright was an OUTDOOR CUSTOMS OFFICER in Bristol from about1840 to about 1885. He was born at Yarmouth on the I.O.W. in about 1804 and married Eliza Glover from Shipham in Somerset. They had at least 5 children. Elizabeth, James, Mary, William and Phoebe, the youngest who was my great grandmother. I believe Elizabeth did not marry but would be interested to hear from anyone who knows anything about James, William or Mary, or who has any knowledge about the parents and background of either of my great great grandparents.

I am searching for information about the Wood family of Bristol. William Wood was born around 1836/37 in "St Philips Gloucester" but moved to London at some point before he was 25 and married London born Phoebe Duffield in 1858. He spent the rest of his life in London and they produced 10 children, Elizabeth, William, Edward, Emily, Susannah, Nancy, Charles, Florence, Frederick & Herbert. I have researched our London family a bit but don't know anything at all about the Bristol side (or even why William Wood moved to London). William Wood was a carpenter. Most of the present Wood family live in or around London or on the south coast. I would be very interested to hear from anyone with any information.

Hello. my husband had been working on a house and found a flyer under the floorboards. It says Alsop & Son Complete House Furnishings. This shop is advertised as being in Broadmead and Lower Unions Street - the trams stop right outside!! Is there any Alsop's out there that know of relations who ran such a shop. I am looking for my great grandfather CHARLES NICHOLLS he was born in 1863 in THORNBURY, BRISTOL according to the 1891 & 1901 census. I have not been able to find him on any other census or find a birth record for him. He married ADA VEAL at Bristol Registry Office on the 24th August 1884. They had 5 children when they lived in Bristol, 1 in Weston Super Mare and another 5 when they moved to London. I have found a CHARLES NICHOLLS in the 1881 census in a "Boys Home" 8 Broad Plain St Pauls & St Jacob OUT, Bristol, but I am unable to find out anything about the Boys Home. I am looking for information about Geroge Taylor Mills who, I think, at one time owned the Mills lemonade factory near the Bristol tramway teminus . He was born in 1823 and married to Elizabett(?). The only census reference I can find to him is in the 1891 census when he is described as a retired mineral water manufacturer. francis pearce married emily mary davis in parish of st james 1889, they are my grt grt grandparents, francis i beleive was the son of sarah pearce born 1848 and emily mary davis father was george davis. francis and emily had eight or more children. does anyone have more information on sarah pearce and george davis.

I am looking for members of the Webber family from the Bristol area. James Webber was born in Redcliff, Bristol 1804 his wife is listed as Ann. His father John was born in somerset 1760. My great great great grandfather, James son, William Henry Webber was born Kingsbrompton, Bristol 1829. He married a Susanna Searl.
James born 1887 and on Census 1901. Parents James & Alice Collins. James married 1905 to Caroline and lived Cockshot Hill, Bristol. They had son circa 1906 name unknown and daughter (my mother) 1910. James & Caroline divorced circa 1912. Most grateful for ANY information on James & son.
SHEPPARD, John born "Bristol" or "Gloucestershire" circa 1793, married SHORE, Ann at Christchurch, Greyfriars, Newgate, London on 24 Nov 1816. Ann SHORE was born possibly 27 Nov 1792 in "Somerset" or "Little, Somerset". In London, John SHEPPARD was a Pork Butcher in Holywell Street, Shoreditch, which later became Shoreditch High Street. Do you recognise either of these folk please ?

They settled in Bristol and had one child, Leslie (DOB 1921)who became a gentlemans' hairdresser, operating on Fishponds Road along about 1946-1970. At 16 months old she was adopted by local photographer / painter William Crinks and wife Mary of 35 Barton Hill Road, Bristol (then, 1891 census address - 93 Queen Ann Street, St Philip and Jacob Out, Bristol).
