Phillip JOHN, born about 1830 and his son Isaac JOHN born about 1855 were both killed in a mining accident at BEAUFORT Colliery, Lougher, in June 1867. Their family consisted of his wife Mary and four other sons, Aaron, Griffith, Phillip and David, who was my Gt Grandfather. Two daughters also survived, Mary and Susannah, who married and became Susannah HOWE, at COWBRIDGE. The family lived at LOUGHER and later at LANDILO TALYBONT and GORSEINON. I would like to hear from any descendants or from anyone who has knowledge of the colliery itself.

I know nothing of Alfred between 1851 and 1878 except he was a mariner.

Looking for any info on my gt gt grandfather Edward Evan. On the 1841 census he is down as farmer but no address only in the hundred of Miskin. He is living with his wife Margaret, daughter Mary(my gt grandmother) and granddaughter Catherine. On an Rhondda Cynon Taff website it states that in 1841 there were only 31 people living in Miskin and mentions the farmer, miller etc and the only farm was New Mill Farm. If there was only one farmer then this was probably Edward. Grateful for any info.

I am looking for the Leonard family who originated either in Wales or Ireland. John Leonard born 8-29-1739 who married Abigail Moody (born 4-30-1741) in 1762 or 1772. The Quaker records show they were married in Guilford County and were members of Centre Friends Meeting in what is now Greensboro, NC. There is the possibility that they married somewhere else and it was just recorded as NC. Family legend has it that the Leonards came to the US after a potato famine. Other Leonard researchers have John's parents coming from Pennsylvania; however, if this is true where did they come from? Any help that anyone can give me will be appreciated. John, Abigail and family went from NC to OH to IL, while some of their children left for IN from OH. Thanks, Pat

i am looking for information on my great grandmother. She was called Ann Francis and maried Thomas John Pugh. They had Stan, Elsie, Marion, Thomas Haydn and David Pugh. They lived for some time in the Royal Oak pub in Penclawdd alongside thomas john parents who were david pugh and his wife Anne whos maiden name was Hughes. My grandfather was born in 1914 and somewhere after this his parents seperated. His father moved to London and him and his siblings were brought up by their grandparents. Until they died and they all moved to London to find their father. What we do not know is what happened to Ann pugh nee. Francis. Did she stay in the village, remarry etc. We would love any information on this or any memories of the pugh family in the pub the royal oak. Previous to this they were coalminers and i believe Anne Pugh. nee Hughes brother owned and run the Blue anchor pub.

My great grand-mother was a lady called Margaret Augusta Hopkins born approximately 1853, and according to the 1881 - 1911 census returns (all after she married my great-grandfather in Durham, England) it states Penydarren, Merthyr Tydvil, Soldale's, Wales as her place of birth. However I have been unable to find information about her prior to her marriage in 1876. She married my great grandfather John Jameson in 1876 in County Durham. On the marriage certificate that I have obtained it says her father's name was William Hopkins. I cannot find anything related to her family in Wales, parents, siblings etc and no record of her birth, baptism etc - only information and photographs after her marriage.

It was run by brothers Thomas and John Williams and they also owned a house in the village called Bryngwyn. They had no children themselves but a nephew called Hill is believed to have inherited.

John Burton of Knapton, York, had two sons baptized at Holy Trinity, Micklegate, John in 1759 and Thomas in 1761. Thomas married Hannah Walls at Holy Trinity, Micklegate in 1784 and had: Sophia, 1787; Thomas, 1789; William, 1792; George, 1794 and Hannah 1797. All baptized at St Marys Bishophill Jnr. Hannah, wife of Thomas Burton, died 1799 and Thomas is described as "Ale Draper of Water Lane". Their son William married a widow, Sarah Lawson (nee Lewis) at Market Weighton in 1816. Their first child, Ann, was baptized at Market Weighton in 1817 and William is described as an "Alehouse Keeper". By 1819, when their next child Sophia was born, the family are at Pendoylan (Pendeulwyn) and William is described as "Landlord of the Red Lion". Sarah's father was landlord of the Old Post at Bonvilston, the next village. There were a further seven children and William died at Pendoylan in 1876. Any info on this family, especially pre 1819, would be gretly appreciated.

The descendant was Jeannette Kissinger, nee Davies born 1892. Her parents were Ivor and Winifred Davies (nee Griffith). Both Winifred, 1861, and Ivor, 1847, were born in Wisconsin.
