My 3xgreat grandfather William Williams lived in Caergwrle. He was a tailor and the only census record I can find him in is the one for 1851. The record says he was 68, born c1783 in Hope. I think he was a widower by then but he and his wife Ann had several children, including Samuel born 1815, also a tailor in Caergwrle, and my 2xgreat grandmother Elizabeth, born 1816. I have looked in the baptismal, marriage and burial records for Hope and can't find any that fit him. Which local cemetery would Caergwrle/Hope residents be buried in if they weren't buried in local church yards? Samuel was living in Lower street Caergwrle. Has that been re-named Derby Road?

My grandfather and grandmother Ann (nee Parry, born Dodleston)are on the 1901 census as next entry to Millstone Inn. They died in 1904 and 5 respectively. Does anyone have any idea which house they lived in or what became of their two youngest children who are there in 1901, i.e. Herbert C age 19 and Maud age 21. Herbert was a temporary postman - presumably locally although his father had been in the P.O. in Liverpool. Thank you Alan
red mail Phillips family and White Lion Inn - (Penymynydd - Flintshire)
I am looking for details of my Welsh g.g.g.grandmother, Jane Phillips. I know she was born in Flintshire between about 1900 and 1806. She died at the White Lion Inn in Penymynydd in 1898. She married Roger Williams of Storeton in the Wirral, Cheshire, and lived there until, I assume, shortly before her death. Any information about her or the family or the Inn would be very welcome.
New Inn, Pontblyddyn (Williams and/or Price) - (Pontblyddyn - Flintshire)
Does anyone have any knowledge of a WILLIAMS family who were recorded as living at New Inn Yard in Pontblyddyn in the 1851 census? Richard WILLIAMS was a blacksmith, born about 1831; his wife was Elizabeth (probably PRICE), born about 1825. I'd be grateful for any info on the family, or the New Inn Yard itself. Thanks. PS: Richard and Elizabeth's son, Richard Caleb WILLIAMS, lived in Monkswearmouth in County Durham in 1891, and in Tunstall, County Durham in 1901. In 1901, Richard (73) was living in Tunstall with Richard junior (35) and his family, as well as two other brothers, Robert (51)and William (38).
red mail Roach, Thomas & Roberts, Ellen - (Prestatyn - Flintshire)
I am interested in more information about my great grandparents, Hugh & Ellen (Norris) ROACH. Hugh was born in Sept. 17, 1851 in Prestatyn, Flintshire, Wales the son of Thomas & Ellen (Roberts) Roach. Thomas Roach was born in Rhyl in about1826 and Ellen was born in Denbigh in about 1825. I believe Hugh had a number of siblings, of which I have found Mary (b. 1854) and Thomas Edward (b. 1859) in the 1861 Census for the area. Hugh joined the Royal Marine Artillery by at least 1881 (ifnot earlier). He was stationed at Portsmouth in 1881 and married Elen NORRIS, dau. of John & Jane (Foster) NORRIS in March of 1875. They had one son, John Thomas ROACH, born in 1876 at Portsmouth. The family was in Victoria, BC, Canada by 1890. Hugh left in 1888 and Ellen and John joined him in Canada in 1890. A search for naval records for Hugh has resulted in little found. He was officially "No. 483 in "D" Company" but was "lost" to service July 10, 1891.Subsequent records in Canada indicate he was a Naval Pensioner and was receiving a pension for his service. Family lore is that he was a gunnerman and had become deafened in the service which is why he was offered a pension and moved to Canada. I a...
