red mail LANGHAM
I have WILLIAM LANGHAM born December 1827 at Romford. He was the son of Lewis Langham, a corn merchant, and I know pretty much everything about William until March 1871. Then he disappears. He and his wife, Annie Elizabeth, legally separated in 1871 due to hs drunken, abusive behaviour but, after that year, I cannot find him on any census. He was a carpenter for the Merchant Navy working out of the Royal Arsenal at Woolwich but I can find no discharge papers for him. A William Langham can be found at various workhouses but I cannot prove that it is our William. Any suggestions or help please?

red mail Childrens Home 1960
I am trying to find out more about in a Childrens Home in Romford Essex in the late 50's and early 60's. I was there with my sisters. I remember that a fly over with orange street lights was visible from the bedrooms - but not much else. I started school whilst there and walked each day and had to pass a police station with a free running german shepherd dog that always barked and frightened me. Does anyone know where this home or school were? I am trying to locate and possibly find old photographs. Thank you

red mail THOMAS family links with HERBERT, LEETE's & CROXFORD's
I think that one of my ancestors "Henry Edward THOMAS" b1890 in Lambeth may have married "Florence M HERBERT" in Hackney in 1915. If so then their children were probably "Henry E THOMAS" b1920 in Hackney and "Olive A THOMAS" born in Romford in 1927. Henry Jnr. may have married "Norah E CROXFORD" in 1942 in Romford and Olive may have married "Maurice W LEETE" in 1947 in Essex S W. I think that my ancestor "Henry Edward THOMAS" died in 1949 in Essex S W and I am assuming that his wife Florence died in the same area, as there are death entries for a Florence M THOMAS in 1952, 1955 and 1964, although I have been unable to identify which one. If anyone can support my theory about these families and/or send me any additional information, then I would be very grateful and in turn would be happy to provide some very intriguing information about my own ancestor, Henry Edward Thomas's father which you may find extremely interesting if your own family tree goes back to the Thomas's. Thanks for looking.

red mail Charles,Sarah and Henry Packer
I am wondering if anyone has Charles c1832 Sarahc1830 and Henry Packerc1844 in there family tree. They are shown as siblings in the 1851 census,no parents present, and in the household of Anthony Packer and Elizabeth(Mayo) in 1841 I had assumed that they were their parents but now in veiw of the large age gap between them and his other known family as well as the fact there was another son called Henry I am thinking that maybe they were Anthony's grandchildren: this would make the relationship shown as cousin -between Henry and Ernest.H Packer -{whose parents were Frederick Packer(Anthonys son)and Azubah Mayn }in the 1881 census correct. Charles was probably married twice he already had a wife name unknown, and daughter Elizabeth Sarah in 1851,later married Harriet Rainbird,Sarah married George Reily, and Henry married Emma Elizabeth Kerridge.I am descended from Henry and Emma.

Searching for information on Alfred William REVELEY, b. about 1873 in Bethnal Green, and his parents, William REVELEY (only known info is that he was a labourer) and Mary Agnes RENHAM, born about 1850 in Clerkenwell, London and later remarried to Samuel George SUMMERS and moved to Romford/Dagenham. Alfred William REVELEY married Elizabeth HOPE in 1897. They had five children: Agnes, John, Arthur, David and Moses. Alfred left Elizabeth and went to Wales. Much later in life he remarried - to Maria JEFFERY. They both died in Wales in 1957 and 1961. Maria had two children already, with the surname KING and JEFFERY, whom Alfred adopted. A third child, Ivy (who may or may not have been Alfred's, so may have been JEFFERY or REVELEY) later married a GIBSON, lived in the North East and was the notifier on Alfred's death certificate.

red mail William Burgess, carpenter, 1763-
The above person married Sarah Staines at Romford in 1788. On 1841 census he states he was born 'in County' but I cannot find a William born in Essex. There is a Barking, son of James & Mary.He is buried at South Weald. Any William B birthswould be good news! Also elusive, Francis James, b.1846 and Elizabeth Jane, b. 1847 (Noak Hill),and their step-sister Jane (supposedly born 1840, Croydon). They all disappear, Jane after 1851 and the others after 1861. My grand father, Edward, born1856, married Annie Ingram and had Horace Edward, Mabel, Clifford & Lillian, some born in Kent and the others in Clapton. Would like to trace their descendants.

Henry Gentry married Elizabeth (Ainsworth?) sometime around 1814, and died sometime between 1841 and 1851. There seems to be no record of his birth, their marriage or his death. Does anyone know this name in Romford - he was a thatcher.
