red mail James T.A. Osborne, R.E.
We have a number of wildlife prints by James T.A. OSBORNE R.E. (1907 - 1979) and found an address in Orsett on the back of one of his pictures. We are hoping to mount an exhibition of his work and would love to find out more about him. We know that he was a founder of the Society of Wildlife Artists, and he became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Painters, etchers and Engravers (R.E.) in1957. Although he exhibited regularly at the R.A. and the R.E. he was shy by nature and has remained unknown to all but his peers who considered him without equal. He was married to Charlotte, a sculptress, who we are pretty sure made a bust of him. He made several prints of animals from Africa and the Far East so he may have travelled or worked abroad. He was born in Ninfield in Sussex. Any information would be most interesting. Victoria
