Edward Benton Gowers
Looking for info re the above who was baptised at GW on 1/2/1863 the son of Eliza Gowers, no father's name appearing in the register so probably illegitimate. In the 1871 census is an 8 year old Edward Gowers living with his grandparents John and Lydia Gowers. This couple did have a daughter called Eliza born baptised 3/8/1845, and she may be the Eliza Gowers who appears in the 1861 census in service with the family of Thomas Surridge at Rainham. Thomas had a nephew called Richard BENTON who appears in the 1871 census staying with his uncle. Could be the father of Edward Benton Gowers? Anyway, any info re Edward Benton Gowers or his mother gratefully received.

red mail SYDES

red mail Reeve family of Great Waltham
Am researching my maternal line, surname REEVE. Via the Essex Records Office have confirmed detail back to the marrirage of John Reeve and Elizabeth Ketley in August 1797. However, cannot trace the birth of John in the Parish register for Great Waltham/Pleshey. Parish records have a John buried in 1851 aged 77 which would make John's birth 1774. The register also shows Elizabeth's burial in 1844 aged 72 which would tie in with her birth in 1772. The Great Waltham register has a John Reeve baptized in 1746 (parents Matthew and Hannah Reeve) - however i cannot prove that these were John's parents. They were married in 1737 in Great Waltham - there is also a listing of a Matthew and Hannah Reeve marrying in Pleshey with their children born in the 1750's. could do with some help in trying to prove the parentage of John Reeve. Witnesses at the marriage between John and Elizabeth Ketley were John Everitt and Jemima Ketley and the vicar was James Clarke. Any information would be gratefully received

red mail Devenish family from Great waltham
My mother in laws father was Arthur Devenish from Great Waltham.
red mail Martchall (Marshall), Devenish, Eve, etc. Families
My great-great-grandfather George Martchall(Marshall) married Mary Devenish in 1835 at Terling. Mary was the fourth child of Ephraim Devonish and Ann (Eve), baptised at Gt. Waltham in 1810. Ephraim was baptised as Denish or Danish ? I canÕt decideconclusively about the parish register entry - but married as Devonish at Lt. Waltham in 1801. He was the son of Thomas Denish and Mary (Prior) married at Lt. Leighs in 1765. This marriage was recorded by Boyd but I havenÕt found it in the parish register so far. I am fairly certain that Ann Eve was the daughter of Thomas Eve and Ann (Bush), who was baptised at Pleshey in 1782. Thomas married Ann in 1773 in Mashbury and he was probably the son of the John Eve who married Joanna Bush in 1739 at Gt. Waltham. George Martchall was the son of Edward Martchall and Elizabeth (Bearman), who were married at Fairstead in 1803. Elizabeth was baptised at Terling in 1779. When he was married, Edward was recorded as Marshall both in the Fairstead PR and in the banns register at Terling. By the 1881 census all the branches of the family, that I have traced so far, were recorded as Marshall. I have a considerable amount of data on the earlier Devonish (and variants), Eve and Bearman families i...
