red mail HOLLAND family
Does anyone have any info on the Holland family, various members of whom lived in Arkesden from about 1829 to relatively recently?
red mail arkesden - saunders
i have been researching my family tree and the 'Saunders' are all from Arkesden. My great great grandfather George married Amelia Wedlock in 1865. 5 of his siblings went to Australia, i presume at the same time the Wedlocks did. Georges father Thomas Saunders c1764 married Sarah Pluck c1769. If anyone has any info on Saunders id much appreciate it. Debbie
Would like any info on this family headed by John Wolfe who moved here around 1807 time with his family. They resided at Wood Hall Estate and I think his wife was called Sophia Birch Wolfe.
red mail Arkesden Wedlocks
I've been researching the Wedlock family from Arkesden, and have traced some of the lines to the present day (I married one of the them!)from a marriage between Wedlock and Peachey families and others. I'd like to fill in some gaps, particularly if anyone has traced the emigrant families in Australia, and would be happy to share information with anyone who has also been researching the family in the UK.
red mail Arkesden - Thatches
Very interesting to read that Henry Wedlock lived at "Thatches" in the 1800s - his relatives will be pleased to know that the house is still standing! A lot of restoration work was done about 15 years ago. I bought it and moved here in Dec 2005. I would love to hear more about the cottage and the Wedlocks - see any old photographs - there doesn't seem to be many around ...
red mail Wisbey family
My great-great-great grandfather was John Wisbey. He was an agricultural labourer in Arkesden. He was born around 1800 and married Ann Negus in the Arkesden parish church on 9th April 1831, he lived in Arkesden up until his death at the age of 77. I know that John and Ann had several children. Richard, one of their eldest sons moved to Wickham Bonhunt and raised his family there. Samuel, I believe was the youngest son, moved to Derbyshire to work in the mines. My great-great grandmother Mary Ann(born 1848) was one of the siblings who moved to London to work in service, she married and raised her family in Hackney. I have managed to trace Ann's family back a while but have come up against a brick wall where John is concerned. I would love to hear from anyone who thinks they may be related or knows more about John.
Arkesden -Australia
The Wedlock family lived in the village since (as far as we know) late 1700's. They are in 1841 and 1851 Census. We believe they lived at a Cottage named "Thatches". In 1855 Henry Wedlock married at St Mary's Anne Judd of Clavering. They then migrated to Australia on board "Euphrates", with lots of other people from Arkesden, including Wedlocks, Judds, Jeffereys, Baines. Does anyone know of these families. Thank you, Gayle
