red mail Hume / Colborn / Wright / Forrest / Thompson - (Ayre's Quay - Durham)
My grandmother, Mary Hume (b. June 1894) lived in Ayres Quay late 1800s early 1900s. She joked to family that her 'full' name was Mary Ann Forrest Thompson Hume but they thought it was a wind-up. On researching my family tree I found her mother's maiden name was (Margaret) Wright whose own mother may have been Mary Thompson or Forrest. My g/mother married a man surname Edminson 1912 who died approx 1920, then she married a widdower Kirby Colborn, my grandfather. I've found Colborn's back to 1700s but not Mary Hume's father etc. She had a sister 'Meg', (Margaret?) who died (age 16?). I'd love details of the Hume family please. They were in shipyards and mining. Thank you in anticipation!

red mail Proud/Egglestone/Best - (Croxdale - Durham)
I'd be interested to hear from relatives of George Proud (shepherd)of Croxdale, his family included Tom, Isabella and Annie and his wife was Jane, there were other siblings. George died follwing an accident when a traction engine frightened the horse he was driving in the early 1900's. He was my Great Grandfather. Also descendants of George Egglestone of Spennymoor, born around 1910, he had two sisters, names unknown to me. And finally John, son of Annie Proud (later Best) of croxdale, believed to have worked for Durham ambulance service in the fities and sixties. Thanks Noel

red mail HOwe Cottee from colchester - (Eaglescliffe - Durham)
Hello. Im trying to piece together my great grandparents life. I know that they moved up to Eaglescliffe from Colchester and were there during the 2w war years. Alfred JOhn Howe (he was an outfitter or tailor), married Elizabeth Cottee and had I believe 7 children, (Arthur who was a travelling turf accountant attending race meetings, Jack, Louis who lived on a farm (Hill Crest farm) in yarm and later left his french wife to marry a landlady that ran one of the pubs in yarm and later moved to harrogate (she was called Mildred), Dot (Doris Kate) who remained a spinster,Minnie and others who i have not managed to trace as yet. I understand that Alfred left his wife in eaglescliffe to live in Harrogate where he still lived when he died.I would love to hear anything about this family. Thankyou

red mail teams gateshead - (East Gateshead - Durham)
I have in my possession a letter of sympathy sent to my mother by a Mrs Cathy Worobiew who lived in Gateshead probably about 1957. This lady had a small baby and apparently knew my grandfather well. I am doing my family tree and cannot find much info about my grandfather and am hoping someone may know this lady it is possible she worked with my grandfather. Maybe in the Long bar in Newcastle on Tyne. I believe her son will be around 52 years old. If anyone can help I would be more than grateful any piece of info she or he can give me would be great. I cannot pinpoint exactly where he was born and I am sure if by chance this lady is still living she would be able to help me maybe hunt down some of his relatives. His name was Edward Bowery and he was living in Byker in Newcastle at the time of his death. Thanks in anticipation Maureen
