I'm seeking in formation on the origins of ancestor Thomas Bulmer, servant then Watercartman in St. Oswald's, Durham and raising a family there from 1764. He was buried there in 1815, aged 87 (though I think this might be a mistake. He was a freeman of Elvet Moor "as son of the same" - the earlier pages of the Freemen's Book are missing - and when he unsuccessfully applied for an allotment when Elvet Moor was enclosed (c. 1771) he was described as "son of John Bulmer Yeoman late of Hallgarth Street", St. Oswald's. There may also have been North Riding connections; a Thomas bapt.St.Os.1740, son of John ulmer, labourer, and his sister, Mary, and mother, Elizabeth, were removed to Guisborough c. 1743 after John died. Thomas re-married after the death of Jane - to Martha Fitzgerald. And I'm descended from their son, Daniel. Caniel was a stonemason and he married Ann Palmer whose fasther was a stonemason. The Palmers were Roman Catholic. Family legend linhs our Bulmers with the Bulmer Knights of Brancepeth and Wilton-in-Cleveland. And thje last ulmer knight, Sir Bertram, was buried at at St. Oswald's in 1638.
