Crown Inn & Larmont family,Sunderland district
Researching amongst others, the Larmont family(sometimes trancsribed as Larmons or Learmont)on 1851 census they are at Bishopwearmouth area with father John c1816 listed as 'head'and 'Brewer/Publican'.On 1861 census John senior is not listed, wife Grace c1817 down as 'widowed',she is listed as 'head' of household and she is the 'Innkeeper' of 'Crown Inn,31 Queen(?)street. However,John 'reappears' and is listed on his daughter Grace Humble's(c1847) wedding certificate when she married Euphroisin Paul Quenet in 1865.On that certificate John's occupation is listed as 'gardener' but as he wasn't one of the witnesses I don't know whether daughter Grace just didn't say that he was deceased,or whether he had in fact left his wife Grace senior and she was telling everyone she was widowed,I haven't found details of his death.Has anyone come across this family, was this the only pub she managed?.Their first child seems to be Margret G Larmont c1838,but I can find no records of a marriage between John Larmont and Grace(surname possibly Humble)either before this childs birth or after.Grace junior and Euphroisin Paul Quenet went on to have 18 children and I am trying to piece together her background.
