I've hit a brick wall with our ancestor STONEHOUSE STUART, born in Sunderland 1757. If anyone can look him up for me in parish records it would be fantastic. I have no more information to go on than his name and date of birth although his name is very distinctive so might help to find his birth record and hence his parents. Looking for any information on William Grecian, Surgeon, and his wife, Catherine Rand Grecian,a midwife. William was born in Sunderland to Thomas(carpenter) and Mary (Moore) Grecian in 1806. He studied at the University of Edinburgh. He married Catherine Rand in 1829 in Bishop Middleham. They had 5 children, William, Thomas, Catherine, Mary Jane and Percy. He practiced in Sunderland and his wife was a midwife in Sunderland, also. He died in 1846, and, is buried in Holy Trinity Church, Sunderland. If anyone has any information on this family, or, any idea where I might search for some information, I would greatly appreciate any help you might be able to give me. Thank you.

When George Thompson died in Newcastle on 12th Feb 1918 his obituary said that he was the youngest son of William Thompson, shipowner of Sunderland. I have been unable to find the record of his birth or any other references to his parents. George had two sons, William and Thomas, by his first marriage, as well as five daughters, Mary, Georgina, Eleanor, Catherine and Florence, by his marriage to Margaret Ann Harrison Varley. He was a butcher in Newcastle until his death. His eldest daughter, Mary Jane, b. 11th March 1880 married William Masson in 1901. Any further information would be very welcome.

Can anybody help me with a search. I have been trying to locate a JOHN RUNDLE dob 1865/1867. He was born in SUNDERLAND. I cannot locate his birth certificate to clarify who his parents were. My Innerd family is special inasmuchas all Innerds in Britain and Canada are related. There are only about 100-140 families with this name in the world! The earliest we can find is c 1740 Robert Innerd. No one seems to know where he came from or birth/death dates. He married Jane Atkinson in Feb 1789 in Wearmouth. They had a son, also Robert - there are many Robert's in this family! When Jane died in 1793 he married Mary Mackpherson in 1793, Bishopwearmouth. They had a daughter Mary born in 1795; died 1866. Currently researching HUTCHINSON in Sunderland. My father, Thomas Michael Hutchinson B:1951 son of Norah & Eric Hutchinson who lived at 29 Nth Milburn St Sunderland and were married in Seaham in 1948. Joseph's parents were Margaret Wardropper and Thomas Robson. Margaret Wardropper left her husband between 1861 and 1871. Some of the family stayed in the Suffolk area, whilst others went north to the Sunderland and South Shields areas. From there they could be scattered almost anywhere! Mushens is almost exclusively a Co Durham name. My branch stems from William, born 1793. He married Jane Elviston in 1812. One of their children was George born 1/5/1814. George married Mary Ann Simmons on 23/11/1839. Of their 9 children my ancestor is James born 31/7/1856. James married Elizabeth Whitmore on 23/11/1889. One of their children was James Frederick Mushins born 5/9/1890. James Frederick married Adeline Paynter in 1915. James and Adeline's second son was Leslie born 23/7/1921. Leslie married Joyce Green (also from Sunderland) in Australia on 13/9/1944. I am their only son.

Thomas Hoyle was born at Sunderland Barracks in 1851 - father James and mother Jane nee Forrester. 1851 census shows James was a private in 33rd regt, living with Jane and 1 month old Thomas. Can find no trace of James and Jane thereafter, but Thomas married Emmeline Ball at Southport Lanc in 1875, before emigrating to Australia in July 1883. James was born in Yorkshire abt 1822 and Jane in Ireland abt 1828. Any information will be much appreciated

His occupation is recorded as Miner (Ironstone). In UK Census 1891 he is shown as Head of Household at 20 Cheapside Street, Tudhoe Grange, Tudhoe, County Durham. His occupation is recorded as Innkeeper. One other family member is recorded namely Jan Green, mother-in-law. In UK Census 1901 he is shown as Head of Household at 14 Norman Street, Sunderland, County Durham. His occupation is recorded as Innkeeper. Other family members also recorded at that address are his wife Sarah Jane MUTTEN, Margaret PINKNEY (niece born about 1880 in Sunderland) and Beatrice DOBSON (niece born about 1883 in Sunderland). John MUTTEN married Sarah Jane GREEN ( daughter of George Green born about 1818 at Whittonstall, Northumberland (in 1851 a journeyman shoemaker) and Jane Green, born about 1819 Lanchester, Durham) In September Quarter 1882 in District of Auckland, County Durham.
