I'm working on my great-grandmother's line and hoping to put together a pedigree chart for my mom's 86th birthday. I have been able to follow the line back to my great-grandmother's line to her great-great-grandmother, who was christened in Stockton as Margaret Bell on 17 Feb. 1767. Her parents are listed as John and Margaret Bell. Margaret married Thomas Jolley of Billingside in 1788. Their son was John Jolley, born in 1789 in Billingside That's all I know about her family but would love to learn more about her parents and siblings. I'm trying to find out about an inquest on my ancestor Thomas Proud he died on the 23rd July 1863 aged 51 years and the inquest was held on the 25th July 1863 in Stockton.(This is from his death cert.) My maternal great grandparents were William & Mary Jane Briggs, they were married (I think) around 1865/6 and had 7 (living ) children - Lydia b1867, Kate b1869, Hannah b1871, Mary Jane b1874/5, James b1883, Kezia b1885 & Henrietta b1887. I have birth certs. for James, Kezia and Henrietta and it states quite clearly that Mary Jane was formerly called Proud, I have marriage records for Lydia, Hannah, Kezia and Henrietta and death records for all, and the parents names are correct, and I have them on the Census from 1841 to 1911. However I have been unable to find birth records for Lydia, Kate, Hannah or Mary Jane or a marriage record for William & Mary Jane. Can anyone help? The Launce and Fowler lines go back from a William Fowler and a Maria (Merieh) Launce. The Headlam and Wilson lines go back from a Robert Wilson and a Mary Headlam (daughter of John Headlam) of Tile Shades. I obtained a lot of useful info on a visit a few years ago.

My husbands family tree is a real challenge, especially his mothers side. His mum was called Annie Hayes nee Firman, she was born in a van, on the racecourse Elvet Durham in 1912. Her father was called William George Firman 1875c he died in 1918 in Stockton, occupation on death certificate was Travelling Showman. I have not been able to find birth records for either of her parents or a marriage certificate. Dont know where they were born. Her mother was called Elizabeth Ann Firman nee Robson 1875c, she died in Stockton, occupation Travelling Show Woman. Annie was one of 7 children, born in the areas of Easington, Morpeth, Hartlepool. My grandparents separated in the 1940s and as far as we know he lived in London, possibly Plumstead. Annie b 1866 was the daughter of John Swalwell(a Merchant Seaman)and Isabell (nee DENNEY). Their address in 1866 was Hunton's Brickyard Stockton which no longer exists. My ancestors were John Marshall and Hannah Weatherhead who married in Holy Trinity Church, Stockton in 1827. Their daughter Hannah Marshall b 1838, married Anthony DOWSON (Dawson) in 1854. I've found that my great great great grandfather gives his birthplace as Winterton, Co Durham in the 1851 census which turns out to be near Sedgefield and Stockton on Tees. He would have been born about 1820. Can anyone give me any information about him or where I might find the Parish register for Winterton. His father was John Dickinson. In 1841 they were living in Hanover Square, Newcastle upon Tyne where he gives his trade as joiner. Later he becomes a millwright. He married Ann Catherine Gittins in East Dereham, Norfolk in March 1851. Any information would be very useful

On the census records it says he was born in Hythe kent, but I have checked the records for Hythe and their is no record of any Mcdonics being baptised there. Francis Richardson a grocer from Slaley born 1821 marries Mary Jane and has a son in 1848 called Thomas Robson Richardson who grows up to be an agent for the ironworks and marries Mary Mann in 1871. They have a son Thomas Robson Richardson junior born 1875. He and Amelia Jordan born 1874 (both in Stockton on Tees) were my great grandparents. Her parents were Amelia Warnock born 1847 Woolwich and James Wilson Jordan born 1844 Whitby. The Warnock's moved to Whitby from Woolwich in 1852. Grandad Wilfred Leslie Richardson, son of Thomas and Amelia was a bandleader at one time in Stockton on Tees, joined the Royal Flying Corp, flew bi planes in World War 1 and saw active service in France. Does anyone know where the RFC flew from in that area?

I am desperately seeking information about Walter BROWN born 1883/4 in Stockton. His parents were Samuel born in Kelby Lincs, a miner, and Ellen. My g.father Samuel Fisher b1895 was a soldier in Middlesborough he met and married Gladys Violet Morris a local girl b1901. They married at St John the Evangelist Parish Church Middlesborough 02.Jun 1919. Her father was called Thomas James Morris. I am trying to find if there were any children of this marriage. Samuel later married my own grandmother in 1930's so something must have happened to Gladys Violet. Any information would be gratefully received.

I am looking for any relatives of mine. I know that my father & mother Alfred Dixon Fenny married to Dorothy Ord lived in the area at some time. Familiar names of places mentioned were Stanley, Pity Me, Durham City, Framwellgate Moor and Sacriston (Segison). I know that I have or did have aunts and uncles in the area. My parents moved down to Doncaster for my Dad to work in the coal mines and a cousin named Frank lodged with us. I was too young to know much about him and I never knew who his parents were or where he came from. I had a sister named Margueret, known as Rita but she died befor I was born. My two brothers Alfred and Roland died recently and I have two sisters Edith and Anne. Neither of my sisters know anything about our relatives and I dearly hope that someone out there can help me to find my past. My grandfather was named Samual Fenny and he was a journying cabinet maker. My grandmother was named Anne or Annie and I think her family name was Dixon. She was born at Lockton, Yorkshire. I have no idea where my grandfather originated from.

In 1885 there is a record in Stockton District , County Durham, North Riding of Yorkshire of the Marriage in September Quarter of Annie Maria Mutten. In UK Census 1891 she appears to be resident named as Annie Roberts, described as single, daughter in the household of John Roberts, a retired sea Captain and his wife at 5 Hodgson Lane Court, Stockton on Tees where Jane MUTTEN is a domestic servant. Hannah Maria MUTTEN (aka Annie Maria Mutten) married ????? Robert(?) in September Quarter 1885 in Stockton District, County Durham, North Riding of Yorkshire. Her name is registered in Volume 10a page 103. Page 102 which would give the information relative to her spouse appears to be unavailable or missing. Hannah Maria MUTTEN and ??????? Roberts (?) had a child: 25. Violet Annie (Ann) whose birth is registered in July-August-September Quarter of 1889 in District of Stockton, Durham, North Riding of Yorkshire. In 1891 UK Census she is shown with her grandmother Sarah Ann Mutten at 114, Cookes Terrace, Trimdon Grange Colliery, Sedgefield, South East Durham.
