red mail Irving/McWhirr/ Little/ Shaw
I am looking for information on my 4th Great Grandparents, George Irving born 1788 and Agnes Irving born McWhirr in 1786. (may be a different spelling variation for her maiden name) They were married around 1811 and came to Canada around 1828. His parents potentially could have been John Irving and Mary Little. Mary's parents may have been Matthew Little and Margaret Shaw and John Irving's father may have been William Irving. Sorry for the vague information but it's all that I have been able to find on either of their parents. Any information would be helpful. Thank you
red mail Aufrica Affricam Galloway 1120-1166
Very interestingly named ancestor; she married with Olaf Red Dwarf Gudrodsen, probably the son of a man called 'Gudrod', and they had a child called Godfred Black Olafsson 1140 1187. I'm wondering if the black was a reference to Aufrica perhaps being African, given the over reference to the dark continent in her name? I'm afraid I've hit a wall here; there does seem to be a fergus who could be her father though her biological mother seems to be an anonymous black woman. Again, any help would be appreciated. Cheers!
red mail Marriage of Sarah from Dumfries to William Stephen Hoare
Any information gratefully received on probable marriage of Sarah from Dumfries to William Stephen Hoare between 1860 and 1880. William was from Cornwall, born in 1832, and was first married to Susan Jane Bray in 1852, and this union produced a son, John Henry shortly after their marriage. There is no further trace of her. William was living in Pimlico with Sarah at the time of the 1871 census, described as a builder, and they may have had a son, Henry, born about 1866. In 1872 they had a daughter, Lilian Grace, who was baptised in 1890 in Kensington. William was declared bankrupt in the late 1870's and died in Dumfries in May 1880. In 1881 Sarah had returned to Pimlico and is recorded in the 1881 census as a lodging house keeper, living with her daughter Lilian. She also appears in the 1891 census in the same area with the same occupation, but Lilian has disappeared. Sarah may have died in 1899. I do not have any information on the date or place of marriage of Sarah and William nor any further information on their children. So any additional information would be welcome. Thank you
red mail Mackenzie/McKinzie
John MACKENZIE/MCKINZIE married Ann CHALMERS in Dumfries Parish, Dumfriesshire in 1815 and two of their daughters were born there Anna (in 1817) and Mary (in 1821) MACKENZIE. We believe they also had a son George MACKENZIE born c 1819 while they still lived in Dumfries. The family moved to Edinburgh sometime between 1821 and 1828 where there third daughter Jane was born in 1828. I am trying to find any evidence that John and Ann MACKENZIE had a son named George born in Dumfries. Judith
red mail Frizell
Information on any Luke Frizell/ Frisell or variations of the name b Dumfriesshire 1700-1850 would be appreciated.
Trying to find information on the family of John Blaylock born 1821/1822 somewhere in Dumfries-shire. John was married at Gretna Green in 1843 to Ann Christiana Hewer from Carlisle. In the marriage book it was classed as a irregular marriage as they were married over the Anvil instead of a Church. Also in the book it states John came from the Parish of Dumfries Dumfries-shire. On the 1851 census they are living at Water Street, Carlisle with two children William and Margaret. I did find John Blaylock born 1822 in Annan Dumfries-shire but it wasn't him. Any information would be helpful

PERCY JESSE GOWLETT ROSE CB I am seeking any descendent of Percy Jesse Gowlett Rose CB who was the “Queen’s Remembrancer” for Scotland between the years 1942 and 1948. My grandfather's mother is Janet R. Robson, B-26 Feb. 1843, in Dumfries. Her father is Robert R Robson and her mother is Sarah E Martin. I show that Robert R was B-1789, M-7 July, D-1872. If someone could help me place some names and dates and etc.
John Carmichael, b. 1834
Researching the following: John Carmichael was born February 6, 1834 in Dumfriesshire (family info says Dumfries, Dumfriesshire); possibly christened February 26, 1834 in Mouswald (Mosswald), Dumfriesshire, Scotland. He immigrated with other Carmichael, McArthur and McBride families sometime around 1849/1850 to North America (either Ontario, Canada or Michigan, USA). He married Catherine McArthur on October 9, 1866 in Flint, Genesee County, Michigan. John and Catherine had eight children, plus two others they 'took in.' They both died on the Carmichael farm in rural Burrton, Harvey County, Kansas and are buried near the farm at Valley Township Cemetery. Have no parent or sibling info for John...he is our 'brick wall.' Thanks!
red mail A synopsis required for the village of Bigholms?
In 19th-century-Ulster the name Bingham was often used interchangably with Bigham or Bigam, suggesting a probable Scottish derivation, rather than from Bingham in Nottinghamshire. John Bigholme and Thomas Bigholme appear in records from 15th-century-Edinburgh.
