My family are direct descendant of the Roses in Sturminster Newton, Dorset. Thomas and Jane Rose who were the first free settlers in Australia and came here in the Bellona are my great (X~12 or so) Grandparents. We come from the 'John Rose' line, who was the first free baby born in Australia. I would really love to see information and photos about the Rose mainly history if anyone has any! Thomas COATE was living (and farming) at "Newtons House", Sturminster Newton in 1881. Staying with him was my widowed 2xG grandmother Dionisia LANE (although entered with her maiden name, FUTCHER). Does anybody know the whereabouts of "Newtons House", Sturminster? In 1901 Thomas is a patient at Peckham House, Peckham, and described as a "lunatic". Any information please.

Stafford MOORE (1712-1764), "gentleman farmer", lived at Puxey, near Sturminster Newton. His wife was Mary (surname unknown), and his children were Richard (1742-1829) m. Martha DASHWOOD ca 1780, Susannah (1744-1829), spinster. bd Sturminster, Sarah (1748-) m. Richard COOPER, children Ann and Stafford Moore, and Thomas (1756-1838), Captain in the East India Company. Did not marry. Stafford MOORE left property named "Freemans" in his will. Any information on this family or their decendants please.
