red mail Searching for relative - (Exminster - Devon)
My great great Grandmother, Kezia Coombes was born in 1844 in Exminster/Teignmouth. She was the daughter of Samuel Coombes. At the age of 22 she was married in 1866 in the City of Worcester to James Carless, and for the next fifty years she resided in Ruabon, North Wales, eventually dying in 1925. Despite many enquiries including the Record Office, Southport, I have been unable to trace Kezia's date of birth; where she was residing at birth and the maiden name of her Mother. Chapel Street, West Teignmouth, in 1851 and 1881, was an area where families bearing the name Coombes were residing. Is this still the case? In 1861, at the age of 17 Kezia was a House Servant to an Independents Minister and his wife - John and Eliza Bowhay, at 2, Myrtle Terrace, East Teignmouth. Is there anyone in Exminster/Teignmouth who has knowledge of the Coombes families with emphasis on Kezia and her date of birth, etc. Many Thanks.

JAMES SAWYER, c 1814 in Harford, Ivybridge - (Harford near Ivybridge - Devon)
My 3xGreats grandfather, James Sawyer b.1779 in Leicestershire, lived in Harford Parish in 1816 after marrying Martha Wakeham Pearse of Filham, Ugborough in 1814. Hard to find any record of him in Ivybridge or Harford at or before that time. What brough him to Devon? Was he a mariner, or in the Royal Navy previously? He came from one wool-producing area to another. Any info welcome. I have everything after 1814. Pat

red mail Heanton Punchardon Church - (Heanton Punchardon - Devon)
I'm looking for information about the Church of England (I believe) that would be in Heanton Punchardon from 1896 - 1901. One of my ancestors was the curate there -- Rev. Robert M. Hawkins. His granddaughter, Margaret, from Canada, was taken back to England to live there with him for a number of years. Rev. Hawkins wife was named Agnes or Charlotte and they had a daughter Margaret as well as the Canadian granddaughter I mentioned. Mostly I would like to know about the church -- large? small? stone? brick? Where would the minister and his family have lived etc. If anyone can help I'd sure be thankful! Moira
