red mail Hooper-Smith
Hi I am looking for any descendants of the UPOTTERY Hoopers. MY grandmother Emily and both her sisters Lily Beatrice and Jessie Smith married three brothers from the family . 1901 census shows Noah and wife Alice lived at "oldgate house. 1911,shows "windwhistle" upottery. I think Alice Hooper was a "rowsell" befor marriage. The family Hoopers are on census as "road contractors".. Lily Beatrice married Edwin W in 1912 ,Emily Summerton married Noah in 1960,and Jessie married Wille or William in 1928? Anyone who thinks they may be a relative, or any information, please feel free to contact me.. thankyou.
red mail Upottery ancestry: ROWLAND, KENSBEARE, STRAWBRIDGE, TROBRIDGE, etc.
I have numerous Upottery ancestors. One line goes back to William STROBRIDGE (aka TROBRIDGE, STRAWBRIDGE, etc) who married Johan ROWLAND in 1636. Johan's parents were Robert ROWLAND and Agnes KENSBEARE alias JAMES, who married in 1598. Agnes's father was John KENSBEARE who was born circa 1540 (the KENSBEARE name often seems to be partnered with "alias JAMES", I don't know why). William STROBRIDGE's son, Moses STRAWBRIDGE (aka TROBRIDGE, etc), was bap 1655, Upottery; he married Joane CLAPP in 1679 at Churchstanton, Devon (though they were said to be "both of Upawtrey", and they lived at Upottery after their marriage). I believe one of Moses and Joane's sons was the John STRAWBRIDGE who married Susanna DOMMET in 1717 at Upottery. John and Susanna's son son, Robert STRAWBRIDGE, bap 1732, Upottery, married Hannah DAVIS at Upottery in 1754. I don't have a death for Robert, but I know he and his wife eventually moved to Orchard Portman in Somerset. I have lots of other details, far too much to write here, which I'm happy to share with other interested researchers.
