Uplyme Devon
UPLYME's charming grey cottages are dotted among the trees in the deep valley of the Lim, which here leaves Devon for Dorset. A friendly wayside elm shades a cross set up in memory of 28 men who did not come ba... more

Jennie or Jane Restorick (nee' Gratten)
Jennie died at Winters Farm Rocombe Uplyme on 15th October 1935. I am trying to trace what happened to her husband Frank Restorick as she is buried in Marshwood churchyard she is listed as Jennie Gratten and buried with her father William Gratten. There is no mention of her husband who died 4 years later and is not included in her will. Previously they lived in Crowcroft Farm 1920 and Marshwood and Nags Head Fishpond Bottom 1919. Frank was a cattle dealer and butcher probably in Lyme Regis. Maureen
red mail ADAMS - Uplyme, Devon/Lyme Regis,Dorset
I have a copy of the marriage record for my ancestors John Aylmer TENCATE (mispelled Tancate)and Mary ADAMS who were married at the parish church at Uplyme, Devon. The marriage took place 7 Nov 1815. The witnesses were Joseph ADAMS and Jonathan MARSHALL. Mary Adams was born at Uplyme abt 1783, according to the 1851 Lyme Regis, Dorset Census. Does anyone know the name of Mary's parents and siblings?
On several occasions on the census & on birth certificates of the JEFFORD family I find the address is listed as "The BUILDINGS UPLYME or "THE NEW BUILDINGS" UPLYME. Can any-one tell me about this address & where it was/is located in Uplyme. I have the feeling it may have been either re-named or demolished.
red mail Uplyme-Gardner
I am researching Samuel Gardner, b.c.1750, married Rosanne Vincent, b.c 1755 and their family, Frances m(8½ in 1783), Ann, Silvia, John and William. They are reported in Devon records as follows: "The reference 3030 add/PO 18/39 is a removal order for Samuel Gardner and his family, from Lyme Regis to Uplyme, in 1783. The family were paupers who strayed into the parish where they were not legally settled, hence the removal order from the Overseers of the Poor of that parish, to have them conveyed back to their original parish." Does anyone have any more info on them? For instance, their birth, baptism and marriage dates. I do know they left to live in Guernsey and set up work as butchers in the local market, but the earlier time of their life intrigues me
red mail Samuel Austin
I wonder if anyone knows anything further about my Austin family in Uplyme. My gggggrandparents were Samuel Austin, a soldier (1779-1824) and Susannah Coombes (later Parker) (1785-?), but I have been unable to go any further back than that. Samuel and Susannah seem to have come from the Uplyme area and were married in Chard in 1814. Curiously, their son, Zachariah was born in Jersey (perhaps because he was born out of wedlock in 1813 or perhaps because Samuel was stationed there). In any event, Zachariah seems to have lived in the Uplyme area with his family until around 1850. Thanks
