red mail Benjamin Rowe/Mary Cruse-Tavistock
Seeking marriage 1806-1809 of Benjamin ROWE, Tailor, born 1787 in Holsworthy to Mary CRUSE born 1785 in Kilkhampton, Cornwall. They lived in Tavistock and had 12 children baptized there from 1811-1830. However, their first born, son John, was baptized elsewhere about 1809 and the Original Parish Records of Tavistock, Holsworthy, and Kilkhampton DO NOT CONTAIN THEIR MARRIAGE RECORD or John's Baptism. Does anyone have access to the Devon Marriage Index and could check for this marriage? I have been told that there is a record on this Transcript of a WILLIAM ROWE marrying a Mary CRUSE in Stoke Damerel 31 July, 1806 and I need to verify that there was not a mistake in Transciption and that this is my Benjamin. I was also told that there was addition information on the Original Register. Many errors have been made assuming that my Benjamin's wife was Mary DONCASTER of St. Mabyn, Cornwall but research is not supporting that at this time. My thanks to anyone who can shed some light on this mystery.

red mail Rule
Does anyone know anything about Susanna Rule, christened in the Brook Street Independent chapel on 17 April 1801? I think she was the Susanna Rule who married my great great grandfather John Marshall in Kings Nympton in 1829, but her maiden name was thought by her granddaughter (my grandmother) to have been Fisher, and on the 1851 census she is visiting widow Mary Fisher in Mitcham, Surrey, with her daughter Harriet Marshall: Susanna is listed as a visitor, Harriet as a granddaughter. Susanna's parentage and movements are therefore obscure.
red mail Pringle family
Hi, my father's family were from Mill Hill, Tavistock, Devon. My father Brian Clifford Pringle was born in October 1943. He had Huntington's Disease, a genetic brain disease, so he died in 1977. The family has been decimated by it so I'm trying to pick up the pieces of a family history (five children inherited the gene from their mother). The children who weren't old enough to join the Air Force or Navy when their mother got too ill to look after them ended up adopted or in children's homes all over Devon. I have no photographs of her (Elizabeth Doris Pringle nee Pearce 1907 to 1956). She went into hospital for good in 1951. My uncles and aunts were: Peter Pringle b1928; Robert Pringle 1930-1983; Joyce Pringle 1932-1937 had congenital heart disease; George Pringle b1935; Margaret Pringle 1937-1979; Thomas Pringle b1940; Doreen Pringle 1941-1976; then my Dad 1943-1977; Dianne Pringle 1946-2007. They lived in Mill Hill Cottages and I know they went to school at the primary school in Plymouth Road because one of my three surviving uncles took me there to show me. I have no childhood photographs of most of them. The youngest photograph I have of my Dad is aged 16 for his Merchant Navy application. I just think that someone somewhere must have a school photograph with at least one of them in.

I believe Isaac was a shoemaker, Abraham and Jacob miners and Charles a grocer. If anyone has any info on these individuals I would love to hear from you. red mail SEWARD / TAVISTOCK marriage look-up request / 1820s
Henry Seward (or Seaward) married Mary Wilkin (or Wilkins) somewhere around 1813-1815. Mary Wilkin(s) came from St. Agnes Cornwall. Father was a miner and the whole family moved up from Cornwall. I believe Mary married Henry Seward in Tavistock because their first three (known) children were baptised there, but later ones in Plymouth. SEWARD / WILKIN marriage is not on the 3-Towns CD which covers all Plymouth & Devonport marriages of this period, so should be in Tavistock area logically. If anyone has the transcribed records I'd be very glad of a look-up please. Thanks.
