Brooks - Stockland to London to Holbeck via Exeter
Looking for info surrounding a William Brooks, a plasterer born around 1825 in what looks like Stockland, Dorset (as it was at the time) in census records I have. 1851 census looks like it might be Stockland, Somerset instead of Dorset but both have given no results. William married an Elizabeth (maiden name unknown and can't find marriage cert. - others have suggested Cotton/Coton/Cotten but have been unable to prove this) born abt, 1828 from Exeter. They moved to St Pancras, Camden, London and had at least 10 children. One of which, Elizabeth Rebecca Brooks (born 1849), became a servant, had two children out of wedlock (one in Exeter, one in Hunslet and different fathers from what I can tell) and somehow ended up in Holbeck, Yorkshire, with a William Pearson. I'm descended from the eldest of these illegitimate children, William Henry Brooks, who stayed in Yorkshire and married an Ellen O'Brien from Ireland in 1896. If anyone has any information about any of these I'd be so grateful! Many thanks.
