red mail Lavinia Patch Adams Northcott Otterton, Devon or Bristol
I have inherited a 'family' name of Lavinia and upon tracing my family tree, it appears to have come from the Patch family in Otterton, Devon. I was told that the first girl born uses the name in some way but there have unfortunately been two generations where this did not happen (to my knowledge). I would love to hear from anyone who knows anything about the name, its history or the Patch family in Otterton, Devon. It would be lovely to pass on more information to our children other than "it's always been used". The furthest I have managed to link the name back to is: GENERATION 8 - "Lavinia Patch" (b: 1825 Otterton, Devon) who married John Adams. GENERATION 7 - Lavinia and John Adams had a daughter who was called "Anna Maria Adams" (1847 Otterton-1918 Bristol) and she did not have the name so it skipped this generation (I think). GENERATION 6 - Anna Maria Adams married Walter Northcott and called one of their daughters "Gertrude Lavinia" (b: 1887 Bristol) - I have no further information on Gertrude Lavinia Northcott but wonder if she passed this name on? GENERATION 5 - Gertrude's brother Frederick Arthur Northcott (my gg-grandfather)(b: 1876 Bedminster) married Hester Louisa Musgrove (my gg-grandmother) and called one of their daughters "Lilian Lavinia Northcott" (my g-grandmother) to continue the name. GENERATION 4 - Lilian Lavinia Nortcott married William George Raymond Evans and then used the name for their daughter "Jeanette Lavinia" (my grandmother) (1940-1975 Bristol). GENERATION 3 - Jeanette Lavinia did not use the name for her children (one of which was my mother) so it missed this generation. GENERATION 2 - My mother used the name for me after much persuasion from her grandmother Lilian Lavinia. GENERATION 1 - My brother used the name for his daughter, I then used the name for my daughter and my sister has also used it for her daughter. So it has been used 3 times in this last generation to make sure it gets continued by one of us! I love my name but more information with regards to its whereabouts or as to whether Gertrude Lavinia Northcott used the name for any of her children/grandchildren would be amazing to know.
red mail Northcotts of Otterton, Devon or Bristol
I am researching my maternal family tree of Northcott who originated from Otterton, Devon. My gg-grandmother Lilian Lavinia Northcott (1912-1990) is the last Northcott I know of - I know she had various siblings (Arthur Henry, Florence Louisa, Albert William, Edwin Sidney James, Reginald W and Eileen VJ) but we do not know any of their family. My grandmother (Jeannette Lavinia) passed away when my mother was quite young so she lost touch with most of her family. Any information or contact with fellow Northcotts who originated from Otterton, Devon would be much appreciated.
