David Western was born in 1762 in Morchard Bishop and I am trying to go backwards from there but I'm stuck. I believe his father was also David Western. Living in Melbourne Australia it's a bit hard! I've traced back up my mother's side to a family called Smith in Morchard Bishop. As far as I can find there were 3 generations of Thomas Smith. In the 1851 Census was Thomas (senior, age 59), married to Sarah (age 58). They were both born in Morchard Bishop. I'd like to keep tracing back if anyone has any information or knows where I should look. There does not seem to be any parish records on line. Thomas Junior (age 22 in 1851) was married to Agnes (age 19), listed as a dress maker.

Can anyone help? There is an entry in the Lay Subsidy Roll for Morchard Bishop dated 1332 for RICHARD att Leigh of Ridge It is said that he was a son of John Legh of Adlington in Cheshire. Has anyone else researched this family? The Leighs are supposed to have moved from Morchard Bishop to Somerset in about 1595. Any help at all would be much appreciated.

My grandmother Mary Burrow was born here in 1876.Her father John was listed as a master carpenter.I believe he died in 1895.In the 1901 census, Jane Burrow who I believe to be my great-grandmother was listed as the licensee of the London Inn.I would be glad to hear any information about this family.

My great grandfather Henry James was christened in St. Mary's, Morchard Bishop on 29th January 1846 according to "Family Search". My grandfather (William Henry James) has on his birth certificate that Henry James was born in 1845.Henry was in the Royal Marines and was in East Stonehouse, Plymouth when William Henry James was born in 1871 and was still there in 1881. He was a Navy Pensioner and in Heavitree in 1901 with his wife Mary Ann (nee Harris). I do not know Henry's exact date of birth or date of death or names of his parents. My father Bernard Christopher James was born in Exeter in 1917 and died in 1992. He said that Henry was buried in Crediton. Can anyone local help with the details I am missing?
