red mail Tooze
My g.g.g. grandfather was James Tooze who was born in Holcombe in approx 1817. He was part of the chairmaking family and later moved to Clifton, Bristol where he married Amelia. His descendants William (born 1844) and James (born 1867)carried on the chair/cabinet making occupation in Clifton and Stokescroft in Bristol. Any information would be appreciated.
red mail Abraham Talbot
Abraham Talbot was born in Holcombe Rogus in 1811. In the 1841 census he was living in North Benfleet, Essex. Does anyone know anything about him?
red mail TOOZE family
I believe my g.g.g.grandfather was Thomas Tooze, born Jan 1805 in Halberton who married Mary Keates, born 1807 in Kentisbeer. Would like to hear from anyone with any information.
red mail Robert STRONG
On behalf of a friend I'm trying to find a birth and/or Christening for Robert Strong. Born between 1806 - 1810 according to various census returns. He was born either Holcombe Regis,Devon or Tiverton,Devon - again varies between different census returns, although we believe he was born in Holcombe Regis and lived in Tiverton after his marriage. Robert married Elizabeth Baker 9/12/1839 in Tiverton. He died 1879 in Tiverton. According to his marriage cert, when he married Elizabeth, he was a widower, If anybody could find a previous marriage for him (possibly to Mary Sharland), I would be most grateful.
red mail Robert STRONG
Robert Strong was born about 1808 in Holcombe Rogus. His parents may have been James Strong sp. Joan Shorland. Robert may have married Mary Sharland and then a 2nd marriage to Elizabeth Baker. They brought up John Sharland Strong, William H. Strong, Henrietta J. Strong, Drusilla Strong, Sydney Sharland Strong, Fred Strong, Ellen Strong, Emma Strong and Albert Strong in the Tiverton area. I'm trying to find the ancestors of these folks.
red mail Tooze family
I am trying to piece together the rather complicated family 'tree' for the above. The village seems to have been full of Toozes in the 19thC, almost 1/10th of the population! My own line I have mapped to Thomas, born about 1750, who married a Dorothy, and had a son Thomas, born 1776. I would like to put the many family members into context, and take the line back farther. Why is the churchyard so badly maintained, and why are there no Tooze stones, as they were not paupers? They are now one of the counties recognised and respected Chairmaking families.
