Please does anyone know WHO the skipper was of the British racing yacht the "Iverna"?. This boat ended up as a wreck in Salcombe harbour in the early 19th century. I have a feeling it was owned by the Hichens family , but not sure. I appreciate any feedback , as this could tie into my Family history connections. wendy

red mail Joseph Robert Start Soper
Can anyone help with my search for information on Joseph Robert Start Soper my g.g.grandfather, particularly details of parents and his birth record. I think he was born in Devonport, Devon around 1813. He was a seaman on HMS Columbine around 1834-6. He was married in London in 1838 to Jane Selden Pearce Mortimer and had at least sons George Start Soper and Henry Mortimer Soper and daughters Hephzibah Lydia Soper, Jane Elizabeth Mortimer Soper and Hannah Maria Soper. All grand sounding names but I think Joseph and his family were paupers in St Saviour Union Workhouse, Southwark in 1851, then a few months later Joseph died in the Workhouse, Devonport 27 Jul 1851 leaving his wife a widow still in London. I'm interested in any further information please.

on the 1901 census my great-nan was annie jewel, she married a william blackmore. annie is listed as being born in devonport in 1867, talking to my nan (annie's grandaughter) she had a brother called jack. dont know of any other brothers or sisters. any info on annie would really help me to try and do my family tree. jack doesn't come up on 1901 census, so assume he may have been born later, info off my nan is :- he became an admiral and went down with his ship, an uncle heard he was killed at the battle of jutland 1914-1918. not sure which is right, if any. there was a picture of him in his admiral uniform in my nan's mothers house but when she passed away she doesn't know who had it. any help would be grateful. thanks in advance. allison
