I am looking for any records, or contacts who know of the following . William Richard Ryan who married Anne Gaud, both of Stoke Damerel. Williams father Richard Ryan owned a bakehouse in Stoke Damerel, whilst his one of his brothers Richard Ryan, ran a school locally. (1820? onwards). William Ryan introduced the Temperance society to Devonport and Stoke Deveral. His other brother John became a Wesleyan Minister, in North Devon. Any leads will be very gratefully received.

I am trying to find the death/burial for JOHN BABBAGE, seaman, baptised 2nd May 1760 at Chudleigh. He married by licence, on 5 June 1781 at Stoke Damerel (name shown as Babbidge). His wife was CATHERINE AVERY baptised 8th June 1766, North Tamerton (parents Richard and Margaret Avery). I am also trying to find the date of Catherine's death/burial. Someone told me that they appeared in the 1841 census for Stoke Damerel but I have not been able to find the entry. The family changed their name to Bavidge in later years. Grateful for any help

Hi I am trying to find more info on a marriage in Feb 1837 for a Robert Taylor and Mary Balson. He is suppose to be from Stow on Wold and Mary from Plymouth,. Ambrose Gallard Cottingham left the army after a lifetime service and went to live in Stoke Dameral Devonport at the Picket Barracks he became a Barrack Sergeant and Chelsea pensioner he was in the Royal Sappers and Miners and moved to Devonport between 1845 and 1851 where he appears on the 1851 cencus.Does anybody have information regarding the work down by the barracks at that time please? Or any reason for him going there.

Anyone descended form any ELLERYs from the Stoke area of Devonport? William Ellery married Mary Ann Scammell at Stoke Damerel in 1875. They lived in Tavistock Road. Known surviving children : William Joseph 1876 / Ernest Albert 1877 / Frederick Charles 1878 / Sidney 1882 / Francis Guy 1883 / William Edgar 1892 / Hilda May 1896. There were several others who did not survive. I know that Francis Guy (Frank) Ellery had a bootmakers premises in Tavistock Road in the early 20th century. John and Nancy moved to Whitby where my great, great grandfather Charles drew was born in 1838. Charles married Sarah A and had 10 children, my great grandmother Martha Ann being born 1875 in Thornley. Martha Ann Drew married Thomas Nicholson Whittingham (born Penshaw, County Durham) in 1892 and had about 10 children my grandfather being the oldest Charles Thomas Whittingham who married Dorothy Hewson.

I believe that my great grandfather married a Mary Ann Veale in 1872 in Stoke Damerel. His name was William James Winsor. I believe he was born in Ipplepen in 1851. I also think this Mary Ann veale may have died at Newton-Abbot in 1890. She had several children with William James Winsor and then he remarried soon after her death.
