red mail Harry Gammon Slocombe
Harry Slocombe can be found in the 1871 census at age 3 in Braunton, Devon as a "boarder" at Jane and John Gammon's home. He supposedly was unofficially adopted by them, and later immigrated around age 17 to America. He later wrote that he was born in London, Middlesex in 1867 to his birth mother, Mary Slocombe. We are looking for his original birth record, supposedly as an illegitimate son.
red mail Jane Luscombe; 1823 - 1887
Seeking details re Jane's parents. My research shows that Jane was married to William Greg Dawe; 1819 - 1817 and they were both born in Stoke Damerel. According to her Australia Death Index, 1787 -1985 Reg. No. 9321. she died at Bungaree, Victoria, Australia and that her Father was John Luscombe and her Mother was Eleanor (Surname not known) However, the 1841 England Census shows a Jane Luscombe whose parents were Thomas Luscombe and Elizabeth (Surname not known) The information I have received from other Family Tree researchers is that her parents were John Luscombe 1805-1871 and Eleanor Cousins 1807-1877 who were married 1831 Barnstaple, Devon, England, which was 8 years after Jane was born. Apart from the Australian Death Index I have not come across any other evidence that shows her as being the daughter of John and Eleanor. I would appreciate being advised who Jane's (married to William Greg Dawe) parents were and details of when and where she was born.
