Does anyone know of a sailing vessel called 'Hotchkiss' this vessel was lost at sea in 1866. On board was Capt John Short Bignell and his son William plus other relatives, this vessel is quoted in his obituary, in the Devon Weekly Gazette.

John Richards(Master Mariner)b 1802 Tapenburgh Germany, married Eliza Reimers 14/08/1825 Northam Devon. All the census up to 1851 he was married to Eliza, with many children. On the 1861 census his wife's name was Hannah. If someone could shed a light on this i would be most grateful, he was my 3xgrandfather.

The couple had settled in Appledore by 1797 and had ten children there. Some of the family returned to South Wales but others remained in the Appledore and Northam areas.
