I'm looking for any information about Harold WILLIAMS who was born on 13 August 1915 in Chelmsford, Essex, to Rose Hannah Williams nee CHAMBERS. According to his birth certificate his father was Herbert WILLIAMS deceased sergeant in the Royal Army Pay Corps, although I have reason to believe this is not true. In April 1939 at Derby Register Office Harold married Evelyn May PALFREE. On his mariage certificate Harold's father is shown as George WILLIAMS Sgt Major in the RAPC, deceased. This cannot be right either, because George, who had indeed been married to Harold's mother, died in 1908. In the 1939 Register Harold and Evelyn are shown living at 2 Midland Road, Derby. By 1944 Harold was living at 90 Stenson Road, Derby and working as a bus driver. I believe he and Evelyn had at least two children, Pauline born 1942 and David born 1947. In the 1980s David lived in Nottingham Road, Derby. Harold died on 23 July 1996 at Measham near Swadlincote aged 81. The informant on his death certificate is Janet Rosemary Williams of the same address as him (Queensway House, Queen Street, Measham). I don't know if she was a second wife-if so I have no trace of Evelyn's death-or a daughter, or some other relative. His occupation is given as "company representative, retired". Any information that could cast light on any of the above would be welcome.

red mail Ann Newbould/Newbold b 1855ish Derbyshire
Seeking details of an Ann Newbould or Newbold b c 1855 who gives in later life , when married and living in Southport, "Derby" as her birthplace. She married in Leeds area in 1874 to a William Isherwood, and then her father is entered as "William". As they lived for a few years in West riding of Yorkshire, I thought that the later census "Derby" reference was a misreading of "Darley" in Yorkshire, but I've not been able to find Ann Newbould/Newbold b 1855 with William as her father on 1861 or 1871 census returns anywhere either in Yorkshire or Derbyshire. I can understand not being able to find her easily in 1871, she'd be old enough to be working, say as a domestic servant living in somewhere, but in 1861 she'd be 5-ish, and I'd have expected her to be with her family. Mother may have been "Sarah", but not sure, and she may - a witness at her marriage - have had a "Joseph" as brother or other near relative. Any brainwaves?

red mail Walley
John Walley (1787-1870) was born in Tipton, Staffordshire and his wife, Elizabeth Webb (1792-1815) died there, leaving him with two children, John (1812-1894) and Elizabeth, later Keeling (born 1814). John Walley moved with the children to Derby, where he, and later his son John, had boilermaking workshops at Bridge Gate. John (the father) does not appear to have remarried, but had several other children, by two different women, all the children taking the name Walley. The mother of the younger children was Charlotte Addison (1807-1862) but I have not been able to discover the mother of my great-grandmother, Maria Walley. Maria Walley (later Gilbert) was born in Willow Row, Derby, on 23 March 1823 and died in Lincoln in 1895. The Walley family were congregationalists and do not appear to have lived in Tipton for many years before they moved to Derby. Interested to contact other Walley researchers.

red mail Claydon, Clayden, Clayton - Derby
My grandfather, Daniel Clayton (1903-1949) and his brother James Claydon (1898-?) were transported aboard the SS Corsican in 1913 from Liverpool to Quebec, Canada as part of the child emigration scheme of the time. From Quebec, they were taken to Ottawa, Ontario, and Daniel was ultimately sent to a farm in Tecumseh, Essex, Ontario. They were sponsored for the voyage from England by the Catholic Emigration Society. I believe that they had been in the Father Hudson Home in Coleshill, Birmingham before being sent to Canada. In Canada, James signed up to serve during WWI in the Canadian Over-Seas Expeditionary Force, and on his attestation paper, he listed his place of birth as Derby, England, and his full name as James Anthony Claydon. My grandfather was Daniel George Clayton. He seems to have used the Claydon spelling until about the time he married my grandmother, then started using Clayton, which is how my family spells it today. I've been looking for clues as to Daniel and James' origins, parentage, etc., but haven't been able to find anything yet. I'd be very grateful for any information, ideas, or tips, as I'm new to UK research. Thanks!

The George family were headed by Thomas William (born about 1813 in Worcester)& Sophia George (formerly Hazlewood born in Soham in 1817) & had 8 children Sophia born 1837, Ellen Mary 1842, John Clement 1846, Clement Thomas 1850, Agnes 1851, Eliza 1853, Emily Fanny 1854 and Rosa Sophia 1859. The Hazlewoods headed by John (born about 1830 in Soham) & Catherine (born in 1831, formerly possibly WAIN) had a son called Arthur 1865 & daughter Mary 1868. Thomas & John both worked on the railways. I am fairly sure that Sophia George & John Hazlewood were brother & sister, but have not been able to prove it yet. By the 1901 census Cath had died and John was living with his son , Arthur, Arthurs wife - Mary J and the granddaughter Gertrude M Hazlewood born in 1897 in Derby. Any information on any of the families would be greatly appreciated
