Charles Potts
Who were the parents of Charles Potts who died and was buried in Castleton in 1725? In 1698 he married Dorothy, daughter of John Wright by Elizabeth Kniveton, with whom he acquired lands in Castleton and part ownership of the Odin lead mine. Charles and Dorothy had at least six children, of whom only one, Anne, seems to have survived; she married Sir Archibald Grant of Monymusk, baronet.
red mail Castleton
I am researching the family of Francis REVILL b.1787 in CASTLETON, Derbyshire. He married Alice MARSHALL in 1826 and they had two sons: William b.1827 and Francis b. 1834. I am descended from Francis who married Emma PARFITT in 1860 and moved to Bristol and finally settled in Somerset. I can find no information about William except that he probably moved to Sheffield after his father died in 1834. I should be very interested to hear from anyone who has any information about this small family.
red mail Castleton Toll Gate
My Gt.Gt.Grandfather John Archer christened one of his many children in Castleton in 1834. His profession was "Toll Keeper" & address was Castleton on my Gt.Grandfather's birth record. I have found that there indeed was a toll gate not far from Castleton & would love to find which cottage was the Toll Keepers cottage at this time & if it is still standing. Also if anyone knows where the actual toll gate was.It looks like on the map to be near Winnat. Michael
red mail The Archer Family

red mail TATTERSHALL TATTERSALL WATTS - Castleton Hope Valley & Tideswell
Looking for links between the TATTERSHALL/TATTERSALL lines in the Hope Valley in Derbyshire and Stannington Nr Sheffield in Yorkshire. Thomas Tattersall (b 1804, Sheffield area) and Elizabeth WATTS (presumed b Stannington but possibly Derbyshire) lived in Stannington from at least 1830. Only marriage I can find is in Castleton in Derbyshire - and in later censuses there are other Tattersalls living in Stannington that were born in the Hope valley. Too much of a co-incidence? Anyone aware of family connections?
red mail Mark Rose = Isabella Allston
I am looking for information about Mark Rose, who would have been born in Castleton around 1780. He had moved to Lancashire by 1804 and to Yorkshire by 1811, but he listed Castleton Derbyshire as his place of birth in later records. Another piece of information I have about him is that he worked as a weaver. I've searched Castleton records and found many instances of the surname Royse, but not Rose. Could Royse be a variant spelling for Rose? I would welcome any help!
