red mail George Renshaw, Ashbourne, Derbyshire 1845
Looking for info re my family who emigrated to South Australia. George Renshaw was born abt 1845 in Ashbourne & died in Greenock, South Australia 1906. He came to Australia with his parents, George Renshaw Snr born abt 1805 & Mary (Anne) born 1805, maiden name unknown, on the Barque Macedon in 1849 or 1853. Mary remarried, William John Clark(e) & she died in Greenock South Australia in 1903. Whilst in Australia they lived in Adelaide, Hookina, Kaduna, Silverton, Springfield, Greenock & other mining areas in the District of Clare & Barrossa Valley. George Snr was listed on the younger George's marriage cert to Mary Ann Heaver, Springfield, South Australia in 1868 as being a "Driver" which would sugggest he was still alive, but Mary Renshaw applied for a Widow's Destitute Payment in Gawler in 1862, so not sure if he died or deserted. I have a lot of info to share after they arrived in Australia, but can't find confirmation of them being on The Macedon, other than an anecdote Mary told a South Australian newspaper in 1899. Any help would be appreciated.

red mail Sandy Brooks, Ashbourne?
I have ancestors, family names Carrington and Silcock, from Sandy Brooks, Derbyshire. I have discovered from White's Directory that this is/was a village 1 mile north of Ashbourne and that there was a large hall there: "Sandy Brook Hall, ....., abeautiful modern mansion, near the Buxton road, with fine lawn and delightful pleasure grounds, is the seat and property of Sir Matthew Blakiston, Bart." Does this building still exist? Is it, perhaps, part of the Sandybrook Country Parkcomplex? I assume that Sandy Brook has been swallowed up by Ashbourne now - can anybody identify the area for me in modern terms? Thanks for any help.
