red mail Ellis Jones from Maerdy or Corwen, Denbighshire - (Maerdy - Denbighshire)
I am searching for information about an Ellis Jones, born in Denbighshire circa March 25, 1893. He was my great-grandfather. He emigrated from Wales to Canada, where he married my great-grandmother Alma Pearl McNeeley from Canterbury, New Brunswick, Canada. They moved to Tacoma, Washington, United States circa 1922. Ellis worked as a farmer, restaurant owner and horse breeder after moving to Spokane, Washington, United States. Naturalization documents list his birthplace as "Maerdy near Cowen, Denbrightshire, N. Wales." I believe they meant Maerdy near Corwen, Denbighshire, N. Wales. I cannot find any information regarding his parents or other relatives that may have lived in that area. I have searched birth records and found several people named Ellis Jones born in 1893, but I cannot confirm which record is his without knowing the names of his parents. His daughter, my grandmother, did not know anything about his history or family in Wales. Any info would be appreciated.

red mail Williams (Moses), Mochdre - (Mochdre - Denbighshire)
Local searches on the history of our house show the following, which might be of interest to his relatives: House at Llanrwst Road, Colwyn Bay Census 1881 46 Bryn Gwynedd Now he has walked the footpath from the Old Highway. This house does not appear on the 1879 map or in previous censuses, so it must be newly built. It appears to be the house called Rose Mount on the 1911 map. Note that while all the other people on these two pages are either farmers or farm labourers, except for John Jones of Bodlondeb who is a bricklayer's labourer, Moses Williams, who lives here, calls himself'Architect and Building Surveyor'. This is the time, of course, when Colwyn Bay was being built. Moses was born in the parish of Llansantffraid' that is, Glan Conwy ' in about 1831 or 1832. His wife Ellinor comes from Llanrwst, and there are three children at home: Catherine aged 18, born in (Old) Colwyn, and John D. aged 11 and Margaret aged 7, both born in Llanelian so the family has moved around the local area. Census 1891 65 Bodfryn This is the earliest mention of Bodfryn found so far. It must have existed by 5 April 1891. Note the inhabitants: Moses Williams and family, who were at Bryn Gwynedd ten years ago. He has now shed the fancy 'architect' title, and simply calls himself 'Builder'. So, there is a strong possibility that it was Moses Williams who built the house. He must have bought or leased the land from the Colwyn Bay and Pwllycrochan Estate Company, who owned Pant-y-gloch Farm (see below). Note that the family speaks Welsh and English. In the 1871 census , Moses and his family were farmers farming the 50 acres (20 hectares) of Bryn-y-person farm in Llanelian. Moses had obviously spotted that building the new seaside resort was likely to be a lot more profitable than scratching a living from a hill farm. By 1901, Moses and Elinor, now aged 70 and 67 respectively, are living in retirement on Rhos-on-Sea Promenade , with their daughter Maggie.

red mail Jane Jones, Daniel, and Pandy Tudur - (Pandy Tudur - Denbighshire)
In the 1851 Census, my Jane Jones (father known to be David, mother unknown at this stage) may be the one listed with Step-Grandparents Jane and Richard Daniel, aged 74 & 80. There is also listed with them a Catherine Roberts, aged 29 who is given as step-daughter and unmarried. I am confused! I know the term step-child was the term also sometimes used for adopted children, but if her name is Roberts, unmarried, could she be the mother of the children listed with the name Jones? It may sound a silly question, it is not so clear cut. I know I have a link with Pandy Tudur somewhere but this is the only one I've found so far. Help, please, if you can. . .
