Hi Everyone One of my relation Johann Peter Miebach in the late 1800's/early 1900's owned the Cumberland Hotel then called the Commercial Hotel. I'm looking for any more info on his family at the time and also any photographs that might exist of the man. He was quite a prominent member of the community so I'm hoping some photos will exist. He eventually ended his life living at 35 Highfield, Banklands during the late 1910's and early 1920's. He died 30th Oct 1922. He came from Germany but was a naturalized British subject.

Was in Henry Street, my Gt Grandfather was Thomas Halsall, master mariner and publican born Ulverston 1874, lived Freckleton and Preston Lancashire before Workington from about late 1920s? Arthur Press
Looking for information about Arthur Press and descendants. He came from Down in Ireland and married Elizabeth Sleeth in 1894. Both their sons died in infancy but their daughter Mary Ellen Press married John McCumiskey in 1915 and they had daughters Elizabeth and Mary. Arthur and Elizabeth also had a daughter Rose Ann (b 1903). Arthur himself left his family in Workington and headed for Lanarkshire where he had two brothers. He died in hospital in Coatbridge in 1929, with his usual residence being the Lamont Model Lodging House (a type of work house). He used the alias of Edward Morgan, possible the name of his maternal grandfather.

James was born in Workington, family unknown; he next appears in Standishgate, Wigan in the 1841 Census aged 24 and a Shoemaker. He marries a Jane Little b.Wigan 1819 at All Saints, Wigan in 1841 and has 10 children. He died in 1883 in the Farnworth District of Lancashire. My son-in-law descends from his son, Robert Gambles b. 1848 in Wigan. He was a coal miner. He died in 1930 and is buried in Lowerince Cemetery, Ince-in-Makerfield- Grave No.D.52. Robert married an Ellen Dennett b. Wigan 1849. Elizabeth Kilbourne. I have lots of info on James' Descendants, which I am happy to share, but nil on his parents or birth in Workington. I would love to be able to trace his ancestors- and to know why he moved to Wigan- perhaps to make clogs?

Margaret died in Cockermouth, Cumberland, England in 1880. Children included Stewart b.1867 and Marion 1874-1875. Stewart Bruce then married Mary A. Dickson prior to the 1891 census.

He married Hannan Johnston of Dublin and they lived there (no marriage cert found so far). Their children were Samuel, Henry, Martha, William,James, Robert. Her father was recorded as John JACKSON, husbandman and a William JACKSON was a witness. Frances (Fanny) went on to live the remainder of her life on a farm called Arlecdon Parks. Information from the 1901 census says Frances was born 1825 in Distington, Cumberland. She died at Arlecdon Parks, Cumberland 8 December 1911 aged 87. Anybody researching this family?

I am looking for any detail relating to Samuel Fox (b 1801) in Workington. His parents were (I believe) Samuel and Ann Fox. Samuel worked as an itenerant photographer, moving at one point to Dublin where he met his wife Catherine Molloy and there they had two of their five children (Annette and Blanch). He then moved to Sussex with his family where he set up a photographic studio. It was here that their remaining three children were born (Catherine - my great grandmother), William and Anna.

My grandfather was John Edward Irving, youngest son of Lucy Simpson and John Irving.I suspect that Joseph Irving was my grandfather's uncle. My grandfather's family lived variously in Workington, Great Broughton ( place called Trough House), Little Broughton, etc. My grandfather married Annie Louisa Jackson of Eaglesfield at Lamplugh Church in 1915, and they emigrated to Canada (BC) in 1920. My mother is their younger daughter and the youngest of 7 children. I have a family tree of my grandfather and his siblings. They were, in order, Sally, Mary Ellen, Elizabeth (Betty), Joseph, Norman, Hannah (Nan), Esther(Ettie), John Edward (my grandfather, who died in Canada in 1968)and Gertrude (Tot). I know they were a musical family and keen church-goers. I also have the names of all of their children and it would be interesting to gather more info on succeeding generations to pass on to my mother (Audrey Irving-Thomas) and her brother Leslie Irving, as they are the last surviving of John Edward's seven children and would really like to know more. Because of this we have very little information about his Grandparents. I am looking for information Maryann Young, b ~1827/8 in Jamaica (British subject). She later got married to James Simpson Paterson in St Quivox, Ayr, in 1848. They had seven children, some of them moving from Kilmarnock to Workington. One of their daughters, Jemima Simpson Paterson, got married to William Sharp in Workington in 1887 and he was present at his mother-in-law's death. I'm appealing to descendants of the Paterson - Young connection, especially those of Jemima and William Sharp to try and remember some old family lore about that wacky old Auntie Mary from Jamaica. Any information would be much welcome.

Am trying to find information for Elizabeth Harrison. From her grave in Missouri she had to have been born January 1825. On the 51 and 81 census she is listed has being born at Workington. I cannot find any parents for this person. She is my GGGgrandmother.
