red mail David Ross born 1824 - (Cromarty - Cromartyshire)
I am looking for the ancestors of my great great grandfather David Ross born July 26, 1824 in Cromarty. He emigrated to Canada in the late 1850's and married a Canadian wife in 1861. He had seven children in Lancaster, Glengarry, Ontario and died in British Columbia in 1896. His obituary stated that he was in the Royal navy and fought in the battle of Sebastopol in 1854. This I have found proof of in the British Archives. It also stated he was born in Hugh Miller's cottage. This I have not been able to verify. I do not know the name of his parents but family legend said they always alternated from David to John so it follows that his father's name should be John Ross. If you have any information please contact me.
