red mail Jacksons of Nether Alderley - (Nether Alderley - Cheshire)
WILLIAM JACKSON (c1801-1849) and CATHERINE WOODWARD (c1802-77) 1826 Married at Alderley. Catherine was from Prestbury. One of the witnesses was a Sarah Jackson (his mother?). In 1841 he was a carpenter at Sandle Heath, Nether Alderley, with 6 children & Sarah Jackson age 70 (his mother?). The neighbouring Sandle Heath farm was inhabited by elderly John West. It looks as if William & Catherine took it over- but William died in 1849, and she continued farming it (1851/61/71 censuses at Sandle Heath Farm House, Bollington Road/Lane). Gravestone at St Marys Alderley has William d1849, wife Catherine d1877, son John 1832, daughters Sarah d1866 & Mary d1873, & mother-in-law Betty Woodward d1866. William and Catherines children were 1) Elizabeth (c1827-?); on 1841 census age 13; poss had a child James in 1847.; poss housemaid in Reddish, Lancs, 1851. What happened to them? (poss married Wilson see below) 2) Thomas Jackson (c1829-1906), my ancestor. He married Elizabeth Hollingsworth and moved to Worcs. 3) John Jackson (1831-32) died 26 May 1832, age 1. 4) Sarah Jackson (c1833-66), with her mother in 1861, unmarried; died 3 Apr 1866 age 33. Where was she in 1851? 5) William Jackson (c1835- ) millers apprentice in 1851. If I have the right person he later married Martha ? (poss Wilkinson), and had at least 6 children. Miller in Didsbury 1871 & Reddish, Lancs 1881. Martha died by 1891. He was in Weaverham, Cheshire with 2 youngest daughters. 6) John Jackson (c1839- ) with his mother each census to 1871 when he was age 32. What happened to him after that? Not on the family gravestone. 7) Mary Jackson (1841-1873) bapt Alderley. With her mother in 1851 age 10, but not 1861 (poss servant in Chorlton upon Medlock). Died Jan 1873 age 32. Theres also a grandson James Jackson on 1851 census, b. c1848 in Nether Alderley. (Poss illegitimate son of Elizabeth, who would then be about 20 bapt at Alderley 25 Jul 1847, of Nether Alderley.) Mary Elizabeth Wilson (c1872, b.Chelford, Cheshire) was a niece of Thomas Jackson, so it looks as if one of his sisters married a Wilson. As Sarah and Mary died unmarried I guess it was Elizabeth. Another family tree has Mary Elizabeth Wilson married to Isaac Wedley in 1897.

My gx3 grandparents, John & Mary Stafford, are buried in a sarcophagus at the door of St Peter's Plemstall in Cheshire. We're wondering why they're buried at this location. John, a stonemason who may have worked on the "new" church in 1826, died on 24 Feb 1837 and Mary on 20 Nov 1841. Mary was a widow when she married John, her previous marriage being to John Webster. Most of these life events happened in Liverpool, Lancashire. John & Mary had three children, Joseph (b. 1812), John (b. 1815) and Elizabeth (b. 1817). Elizabeth married James Sheldon.
