red mail Essex
My Gr Gr Grandfather Henry Essex was born in Chesterton about 1838. He moved to Midsx Poplar, married a girl from Shoreditch, and had five sons. One emigrated to America, Alfred, my Gr Grandfather. Henry had one brother William, b about 1842, and sixsisters, Charlotte, Susan, Allice, Sarah,Hephzibah and Louisa. I also believe that we are probably cousins to the Essex' who owned the Jolly Brewer, (still open- don't know if still Essex owned), and Essex Brewery in Milton, (closed 1921). Anyone who needs help with American lookups in California, please let me know, and of course, any info on the above, or back further, would be greatly appreciated!
Alexander McDonald
My great grandfather's sister Ann Prior married Alexander McDonald and went to live in Chesterton around 1873. They had a son Alexander Bertram born in 1871 and a daughter Beatrice Ruth born in 1874. Ann died in 1878 and her husband Alexander,a stone mason, who was born in Potsmacka, Jamaica, was living with the children in Huntingdon Road at the time of the 1881 census. In 1884 Alexander married again to Mary Jane Noble and had three more children, Alexander Charles born in 1885, Alexander Ernest born in 1887 and Emma Maud born in 1890. I have found all the children apart from Alexander Ernest on the 1901 census. I would be really interested to hear from any of their descendants.
