I am trying to find siblings of Christina Swanson Who was born in 1879 in Thurso in Caithness d in 1939 at Alcaig Farm Ferintosh Ross and Cromarty.Her parents were Andrew Swanson and her mother is named as Jessie Sutherland on her death certificate.Any information gratefully received.
Thomas and Catherine Miller (nee Sutherland)
I am seeking information about Catherine Sutherland born 1785 in Thurso, married Thomas Miller in 1806 in Edinburgh and migrated to Australia in 1810 dying near Bathurst in 1867. The Millers are my greatx3 grandparents. Thomas Miller came as a soldier with the 73rd Regiment of Foot under the command of Colonel Lachlan Macquarie. In 1814 the Millers took up land at Lane Cove NSW and later in the Bathurst Area of NSW.

I was told that John Thomas Macintosh Beattie was born in Stirling on 3rd Jan 1914 but was brought up in Thurso. He would have been within a family of mother Isabella, father James, Annie b. 1909 and Hugh b. 1912 He maintained that his father worked for the lord of the caretaker and that he left there when he was 14yrs old to join the merchant navy. It would help me if anyone knows of him even in a vague sense. Thank you for your help Jennifer

I am looking for information on my Nana. She came from Thurso and was born in the turnpike at 16 shore st. She was born in approximately 1891. She left Thurso in 1907 with her sister in law to New York. We returned in 1970 with her to Thurso, unfortunately I was 12 and didn't really take any notes. Her name was Janet Thompson and she married in New yORK. Bernard McEvoy. Her mothers maiden name was Elder. Any info would be appreciated.

Looking for any information about Christian Macadie (1780-?)and husband Daniel or Donald Sinclair (1783-?), married in Thurso 1800. Myth has it that he was a fisher/whaler and disappeared to Australia with two older sons (perhaps Daniel and William)sometime after 1823. Wife Christian followed, arriving in Hobart in 1832 to find him, aboard ship Minerva with younger sons Robert, Hugh and Peter Sinclair - all born in South Leith, Midlothian. One son, Daniel or William Sinclair, ended up in America but had lost contact with family.Peter ended marrying Mansell Purton in Hobart in 1844 and having ten children - youngest is my g grandfather. Interested to hear from anyone with info on these fishermen - Sinclair from Thurso, Macadie from Thurso and also Purton of Tasmania
John Paterson , born 13 December 1800 @ Beanley , Eglingham , Northumberland , England , married Elizabeth Douglas , @ Thurso , Caithness , Scotland , 9th November 1827...This couple , with some or all of their children , emigrated aboard the 'Robert Henderson ' , in 1862........The Paterson family settled in Otepopo , Herbert , North Otago , South Island , New Zealand......John Paterson died in New Zealand 23rd May 1877 ; his wife Elizabeth died there 31st August , 1884... Their children were born in Scotland : Janet b. 1828 ; Isabella ( Elizabeth ) b. 1830 @Durness : Jane christened 1833 @ Farr, Caithness ; Anthony b. 28th April 1839 @ Durness ; John William b. c1842 @ Durness; George b. 1843 @ Durness ; Helen .... At least four of the seven offspring died in New Zealand.

Can anyone help. He is my great grandfather. Occupation Tailor He had 4 children with Jemima Morrison/Farquahar. Isobel d.o.b 1901, Peter d.o.b 1905, Donald d.o.b 1906 and Jemima (known as Mimi) d.o.b. 1907.It would appear that Peter , although unmarried, Jemima and he were never married but Peter is on both boys' birth certificates as the father , they are both registered as illigitimate. Cannot find birth records for Isobel or Mimi. Would love to find out this mystery.

trying to get info on David Gilbertson b1822/3 thurso and his wife Isabella Davidson, they emigrated to New Zealand ( I think David built and sailed his own boat coming via Australia) I think his parents were Joseph Gilbertson and Margaret Smith. Middle names of children incl Mowat and Polson. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Donald ANGUS(1843-?)was born in Thurso to William ANGUS (1780-1869) and Isabella HENDERSON. Donald married Margaret MANSON (1841-1879) in 1868 in Edinburugh and had issue of Christine (1869), Isabella(1871), Margaret Jane (1872), Elizabeth Ann (1873), Christine (1875)and William (1877) before Margaret died in 1879 in West Harlepool, Durham. Only the youngest two children, Christine and William, survived infancy.

He had a step-son named John, and 4 children named Elizabeth, Andrea, Audrey and William. He also had brothers named Jack and Donny. He had connections with the Pentland Football Club. He was in Thurso in the 50's and until the mid 60's-1970.

The 1861 census records Christina Abby as coming from the Olrig area and family legend has it that she came from Thurso/Wick. She was born about 1829 and married John Aitken in Glasgow about 1855 and left for Australia in the 1860s. Any information on Christina, her relatives and forebears would be welcome, plus advice as to how she might have travelled from Caithness to Glasgow in the 1850s.

Looking for any information relating to William Swanson, "shoemaker in town" of Thurso in Caithness, Scotland; father of twin sons William and David by Mary Gunn who were baptised on 27 April 1788. Have details of descendents through the younger William who moved to Aberdeen, marrying Agnes Bain at Old Machar on 1-Jan-1828.

The information I have is that he was born in 1700, he was married to Christian Sutherland, (Nee Manson) who was born in 1704 and they had a son called Hector born about 1726. He married a Barbara Riess, they may have settled in Olrig near Thurso in Caithness.

George Urquhart married Margaret Johnstone, bn 20.04.1880 at Thurso, Caithness. She died 18.07.1963 at Clashandoran, Beauly. Margaret's parents were William Johnstone and Christina Georgeson, siblings were William, Donald, Christina, Donaldina, Sarah and she also had a half sister, Janet.
