JONES - (Bangor - Caernarfonshire)
I would like to find any descendents of Griffith JONES born c1840 in Bethesda (his parents were Thomas & Elizabeth JONES). He is on the 1871 census in Hirael, Bangor living with his wife Elizabeth at her mothers home. Their children are: Robert Thomas b1873; John Henry b1875; Richard Griffith b1876 & William Caradoc b c1878. Robert Thomas became a bank manager, John Henry a clerk, Richard Griffith a coal merchant & William Caradoc an estate agents clerk. Their father was firstly a quarryman & later a coal merchant. Richard Griffith worked with his father & presumably took over the business after his father retired. Richard Griffith would have been my father-in-law - he died before I met his son Richard Wynne JONES. I found Griffith living with his son Richard in the 1911 census and would like to know when he died. There are quite a few Griffith JONES's in the death notices in the Bangor area between 1911 - 1920. Richard Griffith JONES came to Liverpool c1920 probably after his fathers death as he isn't living with them in Liverpool. Any info would be gratefully appreciated. Thank you.

red mail Factory, Dwygyfylchi - (Dwygyfylchi - Caernarfonshire)
Can anyone confirm whether or not there was a wool mill at Dwygi.? I have an address in the 1881 Census, with simply "Factory" and 8 related occupants. Neighbours include small farm called "Burfodd Goch" and somewhere called "Halfway". I recently read that "ffatri" or "factory" tends to imply woollen mill, but I have not heard of this elsewhere, and haven't found anyone locally who has heard of this address before. Coincidentally, I have also seen it on a very old gravestone in Llansannan. Can anyone solve the mystery for me? Would the occupants be resident workers? My family search isn't for a family who were likely to have much money! Thanks for any help.

My great, great grandfather John b.1802 and his wife Ellen(nee Thomas) b.1822 in Llanfairfechan, lived in a cottage adjoining Marl Smithy in 1851 which i believe was owned by John who employed two apprentice blacksmiths, Thomas Jones and David Thomas. He also rented 3 fields, possibly from the owners of Marl Hall. I am anxious to have any information at all about the family which included Elizabeth, b. 1849 in Llanfairfechan, John, b.1852 in Eglwysrhos, Richard, b,1853 in Eglwysrhos, Robert, b.1855 in Eglwysrhos and William, b.1858 in Eglwysrhos. The family moved to Colwyn Bay c.1881 and lived at 3, Fairview which i think must have been one old house knocked into rooms as there were others living at 1, and 2 Fairview. They also lived in Ivy Street and Grove Park.
