Seems like info is getting better everyday, but here's a twist that was very unexpected. Apparently there may be some cousins in the Berkshire and Buckingham areas as well. I'm looking for the descendants of Joseph Moss b.) 1796 in Greenhithe, Kent, married to Sarah b.) 1801 Shaw Nk, Buckingham. Their oldest son William Moss was born in 1834 in Stoney Strattford, Buckinghamshire. He relocated to Leicester, Leicestershire with his family only to return to Buckinghamshire to marry Mary Ann sometime between 1851 and 1868. William and Mary Ann Moss relocated to Abingdon, Berkshire, Oxfordshire and raised a family. Their Children were Sarah L. b.) 1868, Rose b.) 1871, and Edward G. b.) 1876. Would like to hear from anyone who has connections or information regarding the Hays family in Abingdon.Albert Hays was a butcher and had a business in Abingdon centre in and around 1911.I also remember my father taking me to visit 'Peter' at a farm near Abingdon way back in 1950s.That is all I remember, I am uncertain whether this is conncted with the Hays family. I am researching Henry James born in St Helen's Abingdon on 14 September 1840. His father was Richard James (a stonemason) born 1801 and his mother was Elizabeth born 1791. He had two brothers Richard and William and one sister Sarah. I think he married twice - the first time to Emma in Abingdon and the second to Priscilla Jane in Bampton - but I cannot confirm this. He had two children by Priscilla - a son Henry James Johnson and a daughter Sarah James. I would be grateful for any information.

I'm looking for any information regarding John Butler b. 1794 Abingdon, Berks d.5 Jan 1844 and his wife Elizabeth Dance b. 1795 in Lyford, Berks d. June 1870. Their children were Louisa 1829, Caroline 1827, Charles Alfred 1828, Caleb 1836, Frederick 1838 & Emma 1840. Louisa is my Gt. Gt. Grandmother her brother Charles Alfred Butler became a Royal Marine under the alias James Jones and served with Captain Henry J Worth on HMS Calypso which left Chatham on 2nd Jan 1846 to sail to the South Sea Islands and Valparaiso, where he eventually jumped ship (abt. 1850)

I am interested to know what happened to John Steane after he appeared in the 1861 Census, where he was a schoolteacher at the British School, Rotherham, Yorkshire. In 1860 he married Elizabeth Catherine Andrew Applebee in Daventry and in 1862 I believe they had a son, Henry John Applebee Steane who died 3 years later. John's father was John Thomas Steane, a tailor and his mother was Ann Pulker, a seamstress. They lived for many years at the Vineyard.

John & Richard were charged with stealing 2 horses and sentenced to death. Later Richard was sent to Australia where he led an eventful life.

Joseph Wise (born Joseph Langford), son of John Wise (Langford). married Hannah Chilvers in 1862 at Abingdon St.Helens. Apparently both were aged 22, but I think Hannah was only 17 (b.1845 in Burgh St.Peter, Norfolk - only proved via later Census returns)

Looking for information on the parents and siblings of William Hicks, b. abt. 1819 in Drayton, parish of Abingdon (which is listed as Oxfordshire in the 1871 census). William married Hannah (maiden name unknown), b. abt. 1823 in Drayton. They had at least 8 children, all born in Drayton (birth years are based on subtracting their ages in the census from 1871 - Thomas, 1845; Ann, 1847; John, 1849; Sarah, 1851; William, 1853; James, 1860; Albert, 1863; and Charles, 1865). James later married Emma of Brixton, London, b. 1863, and they had at least 4 children. One was Albert E. Hicks, b. 1892, who died in WW I and whose name is inscribed on a memorial outside St. Mary's parich church in Upton Cum Chalvey, Slough, Buckinghamshire. My great grandparents, Harry Hicks and Eliza Scott, were married at St. Mary's in 1880. I am trying to determine if Harry is related to the Hicks listed above. Harry's grandfather was named Solomon. There was a Solomon John Hicks who died in Abingdon in 1855. Thanks for your help.

Richard WATTERS was born in 1757 in MARCHAM, Berks,the son of Richard Watters & Ursula (nee Holyoake) He married Martha HANKS at St Nicholas Church, Abingdon in 1785. Eleven children were born to Richard and Martha, the first four died at birth. They were followed by William 1788, Mary 1790, Martha 1793, Elizabeth 1795, Edward 1797, Charlotte 1800 & Richard 1803. Richard was a miller, probably at St.Helens Mill. He died in Abingdon in 1828. Martha later lived with her eldest son William (my 3xgt grandfather) at Rectory Farm in CHOLSEY, Berkshire and died there in 1845.
