My mother grace withers was born in catrine in March 1916. I know her mother also grace (nee Thomson) died quite young and her father william I think married agin and had more children. They lost touched when she got married and moved to the east coast of fife. She said she had many siblings and assume these were half siblings - any info on family connections would be welcomed

I'm looking to verify the parents of John McIlwraith b 1761 in Colmonell who married Janet Nicol from Dailly, Ayrshire, Scotland, in Girvan, Ayrshire, Scotland in 1788. Potentially it could be John McIlwraith b 14 Jan 1761 with a twin sister Sarah McIlwraith. Their parents were John McIlwraith and Sarah Martin. The twins were born in Craigenton which seems to be he farm owned by Robbie Burn's father. I cant find any other info about John McIlwraith and Sarah Martin other than them having the twins at Craigenton. Any help would be appreciated. Sharon

John McEwen was born in Colmonell in 1830, married Elizabeth PATERSON on 07 Mar 1862 and left for Australia the following year, with babay Tom. At their wedding witnesses were David MCEWEN and June GARRIE - any information welcome, happy to share what I have.

Hugh McCredie was an inn-keeper in Colmonell, married to Elizabeth Kennedy. I've found records of six children born to them betweeh 1789 and 1811: William (born 1789), Margaret (born 1790), Agnes (born 1792), Elizabeth (born 1802), "Jennet McCredy" (born 1805) and Hugh (born 1811). The son Hugh married Agnes Miller in Colmonell in 1844; they migrated to Manchester, England, where Agnes died in 1852. After leaving Scotland, the younger Hugh always spelled his surname Macreadie. He migrated to Victoria, Australia, in approx. 1854 with his young son William (my great-grandfather). More information, or contact with descendants, welcome. David

Hi, through the help of some kind relatives I have some information on Thomas Mc(C)latchie who married Mary YOUNG and whose children (James 1798) and Jannet (1793) were born in Monckton but the family seem to have resided in and around Craigie in later generations. James married Jean GRAY before 1822 when their eldest child Thomas was born in Craigie - their 7th child William (1837) was my husband's ancestor - he married Agnes RALSTON and moved to Campbelltown. Are there any Mc(C)latchies still in the Craigie area I wonder? More than collecting names and dates, I'd like to find out more about their lives and the history of the village.

Anyone that is related to david sprott.He was killed during ww2.He is buried at leopoldsburg.belgium.My father Richard Mcginlay and david joined the kings own scottish borderers at the same time.many years later dad went to osterbeek cemetary because that was where he believed david was buried.Very disappointed that he couldnt find his grave.I only knew about david because dad sent a letter to my cousin in kilmarnock telling her all about him.this was the last letter he wrote before he passed away in 1984.I think he came from the crosshouse area.

I am looking for information on ancestors or descendants of Samuel Chapman and Helen Findlay who were married in Loudoun in 1806. Samuel came from Ireland and Helen was born in Galston. They had at least 7 children that I think were born in Darvel. The family appear on the 1841 census in Larkhall. Helen died before 1851. Samuel married Mary Ann Smith in 1853 in Camlachie, Glasgow and died in Springburn, Glasgow in 1867.

I am looking for the Irish roots of Neil Dillon who Married Jane Herrie; they later emmigrated to Scotland in the 1840s and settled in Kilbirnie. They had three sons, Neil, William and Daniel. Neil Jr Married Catherine McGarrity, and they had at least one child, Catherine Dillon who later married Samuel Asbury. Catherine lived in the Dennyholm and was a mill worker; she died at 15 Dennyholm, Kilbirnie, Ayrshire, Scotland. Most (if not all) Dillons living in Kilbirnie may have their roots in Neil and Jane, and any help in finding their Irish origins would be appreciated.

Have found several generations of Ross in Kirkoswald beginning with Hamilton Ross who married Agnes Ramsay in 1825 at Barr. Their six children were Margaret, James, Agnes, William, Marion and Martha. William Ross, born 1835 and died in 1920 at 85 wasmy great-greatgrandfather(William Ross m Marion Ross -Agnes Ramsay Ross b 1865 m Joseph Johnson, Dorothy Johnson b1897 d 1981 m Alan Charles Ward b1929- Alan Ross Ward m Kathleen Gleeson - me born in 1963!!!) Would be interested to hear any corroborating evidence or details of marriages of any of the siblings of William Ross about whom I have little detail. Also I have not been able to track down for definite the birth and parentage of Hamilton Ross. I think he is the son of Hugh Ross as I havean old family tree which gives him a much younger brother, David (who married Margaret Graham in 1845), and A Hugh Ross was the father of both Hamilton and this David by different women. David was from Elizabeth Mill and Hamilton from Elizabeth McCaw - I think. Would be grateful for any help on this this.

My great (x6) grandparents were Hugh FARQUHAR and Jean WILSON, both born c1726 in New Cumnock, Ayrshire. They had a son, John FARQUHAR, born c1751 in New Cumnock who married Jean STEELE, born c1752 perhaps in Ayrshire. John and Jean had 3 sons, all born in Riccarton, Ayrshire, William (c1768), John (c1771), and Robert (c1780). William, who was my great (x4) grandfather married Janet ALEXANDER, born c1770 in Ayrshire. They were married in St Quivox & Newton, Ayrshire, in 1792, and they had 9 children (7 female, 2 male), all of whom were born in St Quivox & Newton: Margaret (c1793), Janet (1795), Flora (1797), Helen (1800), Jean (1802), Agnes (my great x3 grandmother – 1803), Mary (1805), Alexander (1807) and Allan (1808). Mary married James MCKERROW, born c1805 in Cumnock, and they had a son, William MCKERROW, who was born in 1847 in Wales and married Annie PICKLES from Yorkshire. James MCKERROW died in 1881 in Pontypool, so I guess that’s possibly where William was born. Agnes FARQUHAR, my great x3 grandmother married John YOUNG in 1826 in Ayr. John YOUNG was a Supervisor of Excise, and he died in 1878 in St Quivox. Agnes FARQUHAR died in an asylum in Glengall, Ayr, in 1881. They had 3 children, Janet (1827), Grace (1833, Ayr), and Allan (my great great grandfather – c1842). Does anyone have any relevant information, or can I assist anyone who is researching the same people? In particular, does anyone have any info on the asylum at Glengall (which I believe is now part of Ailsa Hospital in Ayr)

I am claiming Helen b1791 as being married to David BOYD of Monkton, their children all born in Monkton being David 1813, Elizabeth 1815, Jean 1817 and Hugh 1819. I can only find one marriage for a David BOYD and Helen MORTON in Scotland at Avondale Lanark March 1812.

Someone found a suitcase in the trash which is full of photos and momentos, newspaper articles, etc. which had belonged to her. I am only interested in returning it to the proper family members. There was an Andrew (or Alexander) Brown, Shoemaker, in 1841 census at Newmilns - he died 25 Jun 1849 aged 60 years and his wife Mary buried 2 Jul 1853 - could they have been grandparents of John and Robert??

Flora was my Grandmother - who married John ROSS (a widower with two sons Adam and John). Flora and John had five daughters - Flora b 1912 - Margaret b 1914 - Barbara b 1915 - Bella b 1915 - Helen b 1919. Barbara and Bella were twins. Bella was my Mother who died in 1964. I know we had relatives in America and Canada and perhaps in Australia. Thanks to another curious fox user, discovered another son born to John Brown and Elizabeth Sinclair. Archibald Sinclair was born in 1874 and died in 1876

Various spellings such as Brounston/Brunstoun also seen. Early members of my MCCUBBIN family were born in Brunston between 1709- 1750 but I have yet to find anyone from the same line. I assume this was a farmtown but I do not know if my antecedents were farmers. Later generations were weavers in Maybole.There is a ruined castle in Brunston but although the family may have worked for the estate, they certainly don't seem to have owned it! Does anyone have any info on Brunston please or links to my family?

I am trying to trace a man who at one time lived in 8 The Crescent, Prestwick where he was present at the birth of his 2nd son Walter in 1905. His surname is shown as Chapman Mortimer - either hyphenated or not. He may also be known as just Mortimer. Later the family lived in Bentfield, a house which still stands, overlooking the golf course. He also departed for the West Indies in about 1910-11.

Balvonie was built for my greatgrandfather Robert Blyth in 1904-5, and he lived there with his wife & children (including my grandfather Robert Oswald Blyth) from 1906 until his death in 1917. His surviving daughters Alice and Lucy stayed on until 1921 when they sold it & moved to Surrey. The house was later owned by the Cockburn family, and the Salvation Army from the 1950s to about 2005. Although a listed building, it now has planning permission for conversion to 5 apartments. They also leased Skelmorlie House c1897-1905. Memorial window in Skelmorlie Church. Any more info will be gratefully received. (P.S. Since posting this I have managed to visit Balvonie & the church.)

Duncan MacDougal Cowan married Janet MacNeil Spence(who was born around 1884 in USA-mom didn't like it here& went back to Scotland- Rutherford Glen. Janet returned to Philadelphia, Pa. I am trying to find the history of this house. Padan Aram used to sit on Main Road Whitletts, Ayr. I have been able to trace owner back to 1835 through valuation roll, but no further.
