Taynraid Inveraray
Can anyone help me with information about Taynraid - I was told by somebody knowledgable about Inveraray that it was outside of the town. It's given as a residence in the Baptismal Register c 1750. I've seen it written as Tigh na rait but I can not trace any other reference to it - where was it? Thanks
Campbells in Kenmore on Loch Fyne
The 18th century Campbell family in Kenmore on Loch Fyne descends from Sylvester Campbell and Mary Murray. I am concerned that many family trees trace ancestry through parents who have been identified only by guess work ( Colin Campbell of Inveresragan - Martha McIlvoire ) and this is being copied into more and more trees. I know these parents to be definitely incorrect and would be pleased to hear from anyone interested in the family in order to share information and to discuss some genuine further research - Best Wishes
red mail Info on surrounding towns from 1500's Map
I'm looking for any local history or information regarding any of the ancient farms/community sites surrounding Inveraray. I see many of them on the 1590's Pont's map of the area and would like to learn more about them. Modern vs.Ancient site connections on maps that I 'Believe' are correct: Inveraray - Inreyray Drimfern - Druymfairn Stronmagachan - Strongvagachan High Balantyre Balegauna Carloonan - Corlunnan Killean - Kiluryid Were all of these farms part of the landed estate of the Dukes of Argyll (Campbell)?
red mail Campbell's of Kenmore
Looking for information regarding descendants of Sylvester Campbell and Mary Murray of Kenmore. I am tracing my genealogy from Canada and would appreciate any information. My great great great grandfather James Campbell came to Canada some time after 1851 however we are not sure how and when exactly.
I am looking for any descendents of Sylvester Campbell who married Mary Murray in 1750 in Stirling. Sylvester and his wife were granted occupation of one of the cottages in a village on the edge of Loch Fyne. This model village, called KENMORE created by the Duke of Argyll comprised of 16 cottages. Sylvester as far as I know had 10 children, Lillias, Colin, Duncan, Janet, Betty, Archibald, Mary, James, Margaret and John. I have traced the downward line of Colin but would like to know more about the rest of the family. Any help would be appreciated
