Winterburn was the home of the WHALEY family in the 17th and early 18th century. Thomas WHALEY, died there 1715; he was heir to his uncle Roger WHALEY of Winterburn, who died there in 1676, but whose father, Thomas WHALLEY, was of Shearbanke, Blackburn, Lancashire, and whose will was dated 1647.

Or WHALLEY. Thomas WHALEY of Winterburn, parish of Gargrave married Lydia FERRAND of Bingley, and was buried at Gargrave in 1715. He was the sole heir to his Uncle Roger WHALEY of Winterburn who had died there 1676. Thomas & Lydia had 10 children, but the only descendants living today, are through his daughter Abigail (1685-1716), the first wife of Christopher INMAN (1693-1737) of Bewerley near Pateley Bridge.
