Can any one help me to find who my grandfathers parents were. He was born on the Isle of Man in 1871. He doesn't appear in the 1871 census but he is listed in the 1881 census as Louis henry Jones, a boarder living with William and Elizabeth Cowell (nee Place)who brought him up. He is not in the 1891 IoM census. I know that he took the surname of Cowell, but no official adoption records were kept then. He is recorded in the 1901 census at Bolton Lancashire with the surname Cowell. I do know thathe was brought up by Wm and Elizabeth, however I would like to find who his real parents are. Can anyone help?
red mail William Birch Isle of Man (IOM, Island, Brirtish Isles)
William Birch was born in 1830 in the Isle of Man. His elder sister, Mary Ann was born in Liverpool in 1825, and younger sister Maria, was also born IoM in 1832. By the 1841 census, the family (parents William and Mary plus 3 children) were living inNottingham. William Sr was listed as 'independant' but we believe he was a farmer, or had been. He was 55 in 1841, but had died by the 1851 census, as Mary was a widow by then. Mary was born in Hinckley, Leics. I would like to know what happened toWilliam Jr, he disappears after 1871 census. Would also like to know where William Sr was born, and Mary's maiden name.
